Very little coverage ability in that linebacking group though. _________________

Seems like BB misses the old defenses he used to run and has went back to the big playmaking LBs. I am jealous cuz I wanted Hightower badly but we had a huge hole at OG also. Congrats for you just got a great player and a tremendous leader!! _________________

In those 3-4 fronts Chandler is going to be doing very little dropping back. He's going to be coming off that line 100 miles an hour. _________________

Not shocking. They needed a 34 SILB. |

Just a great pick for the Steelers, and the right one. People who had them taking anything but an offensive line man were crazy. _________________

Ok... what now?
Personally I'd like to see us take Josh Chapman or Kendall Reyes if we go defensive line, and Jamell Fleming or Trumaine Johnson if we go defensive back. Both guys could be our future starting safety or corner depending on how they pan out. If Cordy Glenn, Brandon Brooks, Amini Silatolu, or Peter Konz falls to us then they are also tantalizing options.
I'm surprised Devon Still hasn't been chosen yet. He has a good 4-3 skillset. If we're going to get away from having 5-techs next to Wilfork than he should get a long look. _________________

+!....I haven't been this happy with a Patriots first round since...Never lol. As a Bama fan I could not be happier to see Hightower here in NE. And Chandler looks like a great prospect as well. Cannot wait to see the second round.

If the LB factory known as the Pittsburgh Steelers have their seal of approval on this guy I feel even happier now. lol _________________

Jones isn't going to be a game-changing pass rusher who flies around and make plays. That's not his game. |

I actually just saw a bit more tape of Jones...where he really changes the game is with his hand activity. He has some of the most active hands I've seen out of any lineman in a while.
Jones also tips a lot of passes, never a bad thing. And he's a great power rusher. I do think we'll see more of him with his hand in the ground than otherwise, but he does have McGinest like measurables.
And who knows, maybe this is a nice wakeup call for Jermaine Cunningham . _________________

Yeah, Cunningham is going to have to play well on special teams if he wants to make the team.
Though, I do think there's plenty of room for him on the team. He looked decent-to-promising 2 years ago but (like McCourty) looked totally lost last year. As a backup/situational guy, Cunningham still has a lot of promise.
I do think that playing more 40 fronts is going to hurt his chances. But, let's not forget that last year he didn't get on the field partially (not totally) because he had Mark Anderson and Andre Carter ahead of him - two guys who played extremely well in camp and through most of the year. Throw in the scheme change which went away from Cunningham's strengths and his injury in camp and it's somewhat understandable that he took a step back last year. That he took such a huge step back is strange, and I hope it's not due to attitude/work ethic because IMO he can be a useful player. |
