Not a huge surprise he is from London, must have been a kid from quite a wealthy background. Mostly played by private schools. _________________

I'm curious. Due to his accent Crawford is obviously English but why are you mildly surprised he's from London and presumed that he is wealthy? Other than a quick background search that might yield this type of information, are there any other indications to draw these conclusions?

I wanted to add this interview where Crawford states that the only NFL team he was aware of was the Oakland Raiders and how big they are over there. _________________ 2013 Mancrush: DT Richardson, OT Joeckel, FS Vaccaro, FS Rambo, WR Dobson, RB Michael, TE McDonald, OT Foketi, WR Swope |

Yukon Jack's Q&A
| Quote: | Q: When did you make the transition in your mind from basketball player to football player?
A: It was the first year I played. Stepping on that football field for the first time, it was a feeling I never had before. I liked how it was a physical game. I grew up playing rugby and stepping on the football field, there was just a lot more excitement. When I started to get more of a feel for the game, I became more and more intrigued by it.
Q: You had a dip in production your junior year. What happened there?
A: I got hurt. I sprained a ligament in my right foot and it was just hard, because instead of having the surgery, I decided to let it heal a little bit and try and come back. I didn’t give myself enough time to heal up and I could never play up to my full potential. |
|
The the record note that I don't have a problem with Crawford. However, I did indicate that I was surprised by the selection and it seemed to be a bit of a reach to me to which someone bit my head off.
| Quote: | Q: Have you taken a moment to reflect how unlikely this is, given how long and how far you’ve come?
A: It’s crazy. It’s a little emotional right now, everybody is crying. It’s so unlikely. I told myself coming into this situation that I wasn’t going to get upset if I didn’t get drafted. I have come so far already. I am just so happy. This is one of the best days of my life. |
| Quote: | Q: Preparing to not get drafted, what's this process been like for you?
A: It's crazy, it's weird because I don't know what the coaches think. I don't know how people rank different players and stuff and I don't know what different coaches want. I talk to different teams with different rankings and you just never know. So a lot of these mock drafts, I don't like to look at them, but a lot of them had me going undrafted or sixth round, seventh round, and I just kind of been hoping for the best the whole time, kind of prayed and hoped everything went well. But when I finally got the call, the waiting was hard…my while family was here, I had to watch it. But when I got that phone call it was just a relief. Now I really get an opportunity to showcase what I have. |
I wish Crawford the best, but clearly even he was fully prepared not to get drafted. _________________ 2013 Mancrush: DT Richardson, OT Joeckel, FS Vaccaro, FS Rambo, WR Dobson, RB Michael, TE McDonald, OT Foketi, WR Swope |

The kid shows a bit of modesty about his abilities but you take that as justifying your notion that he would be a UDFA. Looks like you could do with learning a thing or two from Crawford about modesty. |

Because in the UK mostly private schools play rugby, very few state schools do. _________________

5. Eddie McGee
6. Thomas Mayo
With Streater on the PS.
Of course this is wishful thinking and in order for this to happen McGee and mayo would have to tear it up, which I hope happens because I just have a special feeling about them. |
Why would you have McGee on the roster over Murphy? What has he ever done? Atleast Murphy has made plays when he has been out there. Criner and Mayo may be the ones that push McGee off of the roster. Hell, Ford had better watch out or he may find himself on the block. He isn't a GB type of guy and he probably has more trade value because of his return ability. And we have a few UDFAs that can handle that too. |
If you read I said it's what I'd like to see not what I really think it's going to be. Murphy IMO has reached his potential and he's been inconsistent. I said if he has a good training camp, shows more consistency and improves than he will stay, but his roster spot is far from a lock. I said I'd like that to be the roster because those guys would have to tear it up to push Murphy off the roster, which would be a good thing. It was really just a hypothetical saying I hope those guys reach the potential I see in them. |
I know I get that. But my question is what has McGee done to even think he will be a quality replacement for anyone? Why would you want him there is he is such an unknown? Just wondering what you see in that guy in particular. _________________

The writer asked multiple questions from the perspective that crawford being drafted was somewhat of a surprise as well. If this is Crawford being more modest than honest than I have even more questions about his abilities because MOST UDFAs are surprised they didn't get drafted or higher than where they were actually selected.
This isn't about me, this is about our fans slipping the kool-aid too heavily. Let's just wait and see with Crawford rather than act like McKenzie ( or Al Davis for that matter) just found a Picasso at a junkyard sale. I'm not a hater or pessimist. I just feel the Raiders could have done better in the draft. I fully understand that the draft is speculative and more art form than science. I'm not bashing the pick just a little surprised and disappointed by it as obviously others in the profession were as well. Clearly, even Crawford was slightly surprised. _________________ 2013 Mancrush: DT Richardson, OT Joeckel, FS Vaccaro, FS Rambo, WR Dobson, RB Michael, TE McDonald, OT Foketi, WR Swope |

I did notice that this particular private school does give scholarships to underprivileged kids and recently starting giving athletic scholarships since 2008. I thought maybe something in his accent indicated he was "posh".
I know Crawford is a big time Christian. I look forward to watching his progression as I am very curious about the motivation behind his selection. _________________ 2013 Mancrush: DT Richardson, OT Joeckel, FS Vaccaro, FS Rambo, WR Dobson, RB Michael, TE McDonald, OT Foketi, WR Swope |

I think in order to settle this debate, we should just look at the saber metrics. What's that say? _________________

tyvm! If the Raiders view Crawford as a very specific situational guy then this selection makes a lot more sense to me than "Shaughnessy 2.0". _________________ 2013 Mancrush: DT Richardson, OT Joeckel, FS Vaccaro, FS Rambo, WR Dobson, RB Michael, TE McDonald, OT Foketi, WR Swope |

Nah his accent isn't very posh, has a definite American twang to it as well.
Yep, settled it he went to City of London School
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_London_School#School_fees
about £12,000 ($19,500 dollars roughly) per year. He could have got a bursary if he passed the entrance exam + got a sports scholarship and his parents couldn't afford the fees though.
Sidenote Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) went there as well, they are similar ages so might know each other! _________________

imo when you are projected 5th round or lower you prepare yourself for the chance you might not get drafted. A few other semi-big name people thought would def come of the board early didnt get drafted. The draft is unpredictable so you prepare for the worst and celebrate anything better. _________________
