Seriously, as I repeatedly tried to tell people, in organizations the leader of the organization gets what he wants, and the leader of the Packers right now is Ted Thompson and if you were paying attention it was pretty clear that he wanted Nick Collins to retire and that the reasons were NOT 100% medical.
I wish Collins well and hope he retires and goes to work for the Packers front office. And I commend Thompson for his judgement and leadership here. | How the hell do you know that? Just because you and I don't know what the reports are, Ted doesn't? Please, get over yourself already. |
You should have seen this coming. He was banking on making a post like this for quite some time. It does not benefit the Packers in any way so it really is not good news. Nothing to be happy about here at all. |

So do we go safety in the first? Or do we bolster the pass rush hoping it can mask some of the secondary deficiencies without Collins there?
What do you all think?
I personally say bolster the pass rush and take a Safety later, maybe the third round. _________________

| Quote: | “From the beginning of this process, we have taken our time and sought numerous medical opinions while maintaining consistent dialogue with Nick,” Thompson said. “In the end, we were not comfortable clearing him to play again. As with all of our players, Nick is a member of our family and we thought of him that way as we came to this conclusion.
“Nick is a part of our core, and this is a very difficult day for all Packers. Making this kind of decision is never easy, especially when it involves someone like Nick Collins. He has meant so much to the community, his teammates and the organization. He is a good man and will always be part of the Packers family.” |

Woodson to safety?
I suppose that has to be an option now. |

Best wishes to Nick and his future.
Yeah, the timing of this is interesting. Could the FO be showing its hand too quickly and telling the other teams that a FS is of higher priority on the draft board? But on the other hand, if the team doesn't reveal its intentions for him until after the draft, and the Packers do take a FS relatively early, the message that sends Collins (namely, "your days are numbered") could rub him the wrong way if he still thinks he can recover and play again.
The only thing I'm worried about is everyone's reaction towards the team if it turns out that Nick can still play and thus decides to resume his career, not if he does return and plays at the level he had been playing. But with all that said, I trust (or so I hope) that the FO made the right decision given what they knew and thought that the risk of re-injury was too much for him to consider playing any time soon. _________________

Then we would have to go corner early. Either hope Jenkins/Gilmore/Kirkpatrick are there. We cannot go into the season with Tramon, Shields and then everyone else. Then wed still need to find a way to come out of it with a DE and OLB that can contribute. I have no clue what to do here. _________________

We would need to trade up for him. He is not worth the price. What about the safety from Boise in the third somewhere? _________________

Woodson going to SS and Burnett to FS would have to make the most sense in the short term. _________________

| The answer might be on the roster, who knows. Jennings? Levine? They'll get a shot. |

Or Johnson in the 2nd. That gives us two fs/cb in him and Woodson. How big of a cap hit do we take by cutting him? |

I think this means Peprah for one more year. I dont think you can pair a rookie such as Smith or Barron with a still young Burnett. TT and Capers need to pull a rabbit out of their collective hats to find a pass rush strong enough to hide Peprah ala the Super Bowl run _________________

That's what I was thinking. But boy, this stings.
:\ I figured it would happen this way, I respect the team a lot for doing this before the draft too. _________________
