| Quote: | | Vikings have agreed to terms on a one year deal with WR Jerome Simpson. Even tho he's suspended to start the season he's got a lot of talent |
http://twitter.com/JayGlazer/statuses/194829365358493697
It was announced today that Simpson has been suspended for 3 games by the NFL but it didn't stop the Vikings from gambling on the talented WR who also has legal troubles too as he was sentenced to 15 days in jail and three months' probation for a felony drug count of "prohibited act relating to a controlled substance."
Simpson recorded 50 catches for 725 yards and 4 TDs last season.

Good pick-up for the Vikes, only down side is that he needs 2 years to learn a playbook. So, yeah... _________________

He seemed to learn Jay Gruden's offense quick enough... _________________ With much cheese,

Warning for anyone who may look at this and think he was productive last season...He wasn't.
He had one of the worst catch rates in the league last year. The guy just can't get his hands on catchable passes. |

Did he? Then what number was he? because #89 disappeared for weeks at a time. If it wasn't for the catch and flip vs. Arizona, how many people would know who he is. He never grasped the offense. Ever. He was invisible when the team needed him the most with Green out a few games. He made most of his plays within 8 yards of the LOS. He never drew safety coverage away from green and Gresham. His numbers were inflated in a WCO by YAC. And his breakout year last year came with the drafting of AJ Green on the other side.
Just sayin. I hope it works out with the Vikings. But I won't miss him. _________________

What he said. I wish nothing but the best for Simpson but his major flaw is that it takes time for him to learn a new system. He put up decent numbers in Gruden's system but mainly because of his ridiculous athleticism, he should have been a 1,000 yard receiver though.
His routes are still a bit sloppy, so he doesn't get as much separation as he should. The talent definitely is there though. Plus he's a good/willing blocker. Will be rooting for him to succeed but I think he needs multiple years in the same offense to truly flourish... _________________

It's not like he's a #1 WR. On paper his production seems like a risk worth taking. _________________

The problem is the inconsistency. Last season he had games of 136, 101 and 152 yards. He also had games of 6, 14, 15 and 14 yards. When you have AJ Green and Gresham occupying DB's, you should be able to produce better.
If he can get the playbook down and be more consistent, he would be a great #2 WR... _________________

that's pretty much all the Vikings need him to be. _________________

He seemed fairly inconsistent last season. Not a bad signing for the Vikings if he can stay out of trouble though. _________________

That's pretty much all the Bengals needed for the last 2 years, and he could never fulfill that role.
Obviously this signing isn't it for the Vikings. They'll probably still be looking for another WR in the draft. But this is a good stop gap or fill in if you will. _________________

great move by the Vikings..
when Simpson is on the field, he's an above average receiver that seems to have some big play ability.. I think he really helps Percy Harvin by being someone else that a defense needs to think about.. and another young receiver to go help the young Ponder out.. _________________
