I know we have a favorite prospects page and a couple of us have posted their breakdowns of players pros and cons. I just wanted a place to discuss a player based off of videos that I'll post here...that way we can compile videos and discuss what we saw compared to what we see here. I'll post the player and videos that highlight that player throughout entire games. If anyone can find more videos of gameplay (not highlight videos), then please feel free to add them and I can add them to that players page.

I'll post a running track of the players here and the links on this opening post will put you on their profile page with all their videos.

Melvin Ingram DE South Carolina will be the first player evaluated.

Melvin vs Clemson
Melvin vs Georgia
Melvin vs Nebraska
Melvin vs Auburn

After watching these videos of his gameplay it's easy to see Melvin shouldn't have any questions about his motor. A few things that worry me is his pass-rushing skills. He seems to be too much like a read-and-react player and very rarely gets a great burst off the line unless he's playing DT. I would have loved to see him just straight pass-rush more to get a better evaluation of him in that sense, but nearly everytime the opposition was put in a pure passing situation, they moved Ingram inside to pass-rush as a DT. If he was that good of a pass-rusher he'd be collapsing the pocket for my team on 3rd and long from the outside instead of trying to pressure from the inside. I think to best service his abilities I would place him as a 3-4 WILL or SAM. He could play as a DE in a 4-3, but I don't think he would be at his best there. He is a very good all-around player and could be considered for our draft spot and he could fit in either system. I believe he would excel in the 3-4 and still do well in the 4-3, kinda like a reverse Mario Williams...and a lesser Mario Williams. I think he could be a player in the mold of Demarcus Ware in a 3-4 and if we drafted players despite defensive scheme and just off of BAP, he could be a hard player to pass on. But this is without us discussing the other DEs. Much will be learned over the next few weeks.

Let me hear what you have to say based on what you saw in these videos...and if you found something in a different video please post it here so we can all discuss.

Just re-watched his Clemson tape...
Things I see (Along with other tapes I have seen of his)
1. Not overly impressive and had his only sack from the DT position, where the Guard was looking at Clowney and straight missed Ingram.
2. He missed what looked like 5 tackles, in which two for sure, Boyd and Ellington, hit him and bounced right off.
3. Got lost on several run plays and was a non factor.
4. He gets upright and stoned at the line on what looked like half the plays in the game.
5. Keeps his eyes/head down.
6. Off the initial punch from the Lineman (and once Dwayne Allen) he stops backpedals, spins, and tries to use his speed, which wont work at the next level.

The impression I cam away from those tapes of Ingram is a guy who's very disruptive as a tackle, but a non-factor as an end (he doesn't necessarily get pushed back, but he doesn't seem to push forward ether). Even at the college level, it's far to easy for tackles to engage the guy and take him out of the play.

Next up Quinton Coples DE North Carolina.

From these videos I see some good and bad. I would like to see more inside hand technique. He needs to add the inside pass-rush from the DE position. He knows how to handle double-teams(and a triple-team on one play...think it was the Miami game). He doesn't have the game play speed of Ingram, but I do like the fact that he just rushes the QB. Also despite what some reporters and bloggers say...throughout these videos I saw absolutely no concern for lack of motor. He chased plays across the field and behind him. He shed blocks well. Right now between the two DEs we've listed just based off of potential (regardless of system) I would actually have Ingram listed ahead of Coples. But if I were drafting for a certain system, it would obviously be Ingram for the 3-4 and Coples for the 4-3. If Gene does decide to take Ingram, there will likely be a whole lot of talk on whether we're changing schemes.

Honestly, it just saddens me that we won't have a shot at Clowney when he comes out.
