I think if it comes down to Mercilus, Perry and Upshaw, I prefer them in that order. I really don't know how to gauge this draft, but I think at 18 we kind of miss out on an impact player. The 3 listed have so many question marks, especially Upshaw weighing in, and running like an offensive lineman, though I like how he has experience playing linebacker in a 3-4, which is the big questions concerning Mercilus and Perry.
My new wish list has either, or both, Fletcher Cox dropping to 18, or David DeCastro and possibly Riley Reiff with our lack of depth, starting Clary and injury concern/work ethic with Gaither.
I'm also getting more and more on board with a corner in the first 3 rounds. Cason is such a mystery and Jammer is, well, old.
Can someone just get AJ on these boards to help us sleep at night? | I really want our pick at 18 to be Perry but AJ never seems picks the guy everyone wants. For better or worse, he likes to surprise everyone. It's pretty much impossible to predict who he will pick at this point. I just hope it's someone we have heard of.
I highly doubt Cox, DeCastro, and/or Reiff are there at 18 but I doubt AJ would take any of them anyway. Cox doesn't fill a need whatsoever and AJ doesn't believe in drafting Olinemen in the 1st round.
I think a corner should be drafted in the 1st 3 rounds too. A lot of people will be mad if we draft a corner early, but Jammer will definitely be gone next year and Cason might as well, depending on how he plays next season. Behind them all we have are Wright and Gilchrist. Gilchrist probably won't ever be more than a nickel(although he'll be a really good one) and Wright is a huge project. |
