*Trade* The Chicago Bears trade 1[19] and 2[50] to the Seattle Seahawks for 1[12] and 4[111].

1[12] DE Melvin Ingram [South Carolina] 6'2" 272lbs.

All Bears fans agree that the Bears need a dominant pass rusher to pair with Julius Peppers. But we spend our time arguing over DEs with serious question marks and red flags. I say that we should get aggressive make a move and get the pass rusher that we need. Ingram is they most talented pass rusher in the draft, he can rush from all over the field and mulitple positions. He makes up for his lack of ideal height with great speed, explosion and strength.

3[80] WR A.J Jenkins [Illinois] 6' 190lbs.

The Bears need added depth at WR and they need a player that can take the top off of the defense and Jenkins can do both of those things. Jenkins has the speed and ability to make big plays against zone defense and allow for Marshall and Bennett to work the underneath routes.

4. OT/OG Levy Adcock [Oklahoma St] 6'5" 332lbs.

The Bears add depth and size to their OL with Adcock who can play RT and OG. Adcock's versatility makes him a nice addition to the Bears as he can compete at LG allowing Chris Williams to compete at LT and he can back up Carimi at RT.

4. DT Jaye Howard [Florida] 6'3" 302lbs.

With the loss of Okoye the Bear are thing at DT and Howard showed at the Senior Bowl that he has the burst and power to disrput the pocket and play the 3 technique.

5. LB Travis Lewis [OU] 6'1" 246lbs.

The Bears add a versatile player in Lewis who has played WLB and MLB for the Sooners. Lewis can be worked out at WLB or MLB and developed behind our veteran group.

6. CB Omar Bolden [Arizona St] 5'10" 202lbs.

The Bears have signed a number of CBs for depth recently, but neither is a long term starter. Bolden would be drafted much higher if he had not missed the season with an injury. Bolden has the size and physicality to play in the Cover 2 and is worth the risk at this pick.

7. LB Adrien Cole [Louisiana Lafeyette] 5'11" 250lbs.
The Bears need to add a number of young developmental LBs in later rounds in a hope of hitting a home run in the 2-3 years that they still have Briggs and Urlacher. Cole might not look the part, but he is a football player that makes plays.

Depth Chart

QB: Cutler, Campbell, McCown
RB: Forte, Bush, Bell, Clutts

RE: Peppers

No way would I give that up for Ingram…Jenkins would be a good pick up…not a fan of Adcock…really like the fit of Howard for us…Lewis would be a great pick up but I doubt he falls to the 5th round…Bolden & Cole would have to fight real hard to make the roster.

I'm starting to like AJ Jenkins a lot. He would be a great 3rd round draft pick for us imo.

We need talent at DE.

Show me a more talented DE?

If he wants to be. Ingram has no motivation problems and a motor.

I would make the same move for Coples, I think there is a significant drop off from Coples and Ingram to the next guys.

Ingram might not have problem with his motor…but he could have problems playing as a true DE in the NFL on every down…he doesn’t have the length or bulk to stand up to the run on consistent basis IMO and without a natural position I wouldn’t give up that much to move up for him.

That is the question.

But at a little under 6'2" he is 1" shorter than Nick Perry and height on a DE is one of the more over rated aspects.

Yes being 6'7" helps as a pass rusher because you have long arms, but it hinders because you play high and struggle to switch direction.

For me it goes

Day 1 starters

Ingram
Coples

Need some time, but love the potential

Perry

Don't know his ceiling

Upshaw

Needs serious work

Ingram isn’t a little under 6-2”…he is half a foot under 6-2” at only 6-1’ 1/2” with a very compact frame…add in 31’ 1/2” inch arms that is a concern to me…again Perry has nearly an inch and a half in high and an inch and a half in arm length…he also has more bulk to him...

If there was a defensive end with no question marks in the draft then sure we should draft up…but not for a guy who it is even questionable what his position is going to be in the pros…personally Coples is the only guy I would consider making a move for…and even at that I doubt I would move up 7 places and give up a 2nd rounder in the process…we have plenty of directions to go in for this draft so there is no need to trade up for a guy we aren’t 100% sold on (unless the Bears are of course).

Only reason why we sould trade up is to get M. Floyd, Decastro, Blackmon, or a true blue chipper at their position. I'm pretty sure Izzy would not lose his job to Ingram. Coples has a chance later in the season, but Ingram isnt the prospect to trade up for. Just my opinion.

The only aggressive part is the trade to get Ingram and that I would never do. He certainly is not that much better than the other linemen to justify the 2d too. He MIGHT be worth the 19th but there are questions even there. We cannot afford to spend that on him needing all that we do on defense.

Ingram has to play in a 3-4 defense.

He is much too short to be an effective DE with his hand down.

I would really disapprove of a move up for him.

Jenkins may well be available in the fourth or lower. There are a bunch of WRs like him who are 3d round or lower all of whom I like pretty well. I'm starting to think we should use the 3d on defense and take whichever one of the aforesaid bunch of WRs in the fourth or lower. Which lower round would be decided by whether we take a WR in the 1st.

Ingram would be a situational 3 tech for us. Most of his production was from the 3 tech. He's not a good fit for us. I wouldnt spend the #19 pick on him.

I really like Jaye Howard though. He'd be a really good pick. He really stands out in games.
