Shocked

Quote:
Even as the Saints beg Bill Parcells to come to New Orleans, The Post has learned Vikings owner Zygi Wilf is putting the hard sell on the former Giants and Jets coach to head to Minnesota and “run the show.’’

The Saints are seeking a replacement for the 2012 season for suspended head coach Sean Payton while Wilf, who has strong New Jersey ties, is simply seeking an upgrade over coach Leslie Frazier, and GM Rick Spielman and believes Parcells is the guy.

The Vikings went 3-13 last season under Frazier, who took over for the fired Brad Childress during the 2010 season.

Just what this team needs. A revolving door at the head coaching spot.

I think that's what Zigy is trying to avoid, if ( and that's a big if) this is true. He kind of forced his hand with the Fraizer hiring ,and I've said all off season his job could and should be on the line. If he isn't the real deal, the next guy we hire has to be or Zigy will lose this team. Fans will doubt every decision he makes and so fourth.

Maybe that's where the Tuna comes in. Helping us find the next big thing at HC. I'm not so sure he can do that tho, Sparano was a joke for the Dolphins.

Before VD asks me where I am getting my feelings on Fraizer from. Laughing

So the reality of it is we need to make some changes to our roster and do some things to close the gap in our division," Frazier said. "But there's not a lot of patience in the NFL today. People want to see success, and they want to see it like right now."

I don't think Parcells has anything left. Based on his (lack of) success in MIA I think the game has just passed him by. Parcells hasn't been relevant (when it comes to winning) in a long time.

The article doesn't mention when the Wilf made that offer to Parcells. I'm guessing it was before Spielman was promoted.

I could see Parcells wanting to try one more time as a the VP/GM, but I don't think he would want to coach more than a year.

Also, he is 71, probably loaded and is already a HOF figure, why would he come to a losing franchise in Minnesota?

When I read the title of this thread, I could not have been more confused. Can you please change "Tuna" to "Bill Parcells" please? Laughing

I'm thinking [UMN] is probably right, this is probably when the Vikings were determining if Spielman was going to be GM. I doubt Parcells would come back to coach. But it does sound like in the article anyway, that they offered him his choice of positions.

Zygi Wilf wanting Bill Parcells isn't exactly breaking news. The Wilfs are Giants fans from way back. If he wanted a job, they'd hire him.

When analyzing that New York Post story, though, ask yourself this: why the hell would Bill Parcells want to move to Minnesota?

I think this is a good perspective on it, and I don't think there is much of any chance Parcells comes to Minnesota unless maybe it is in a advisory position, but even that I found doubtful.

I want nothing to do with Parcells, he is partly responsible for the mess that has become of the Miami Dolphins.

Why wouldn't an old fart like Parcells want to move to Minnesota? Some of the best fresh water and ice fishing in the world.

There is zero chance of Parcells coming to Minnesota except maybe as a temporary "consultant" to give Zygi a state-of-the-organization report and help him overhaul the coaching staff and front office as needed. And even that is extremely unlikely.

The bigger question is why Zygi was talking to Parcells at all if he supposedly has so much faith in Rick Spielman.

Eh?

I remember hearing years back when he was contemplating returning to the pros, that he preferred to be somewhere warm. (Hence why he was in Dallas and Miami).

I guess I dont see Parcells having much desire to come back unless its for his ideal situation ( a warm team where he would have complete control). I dont think at this point he is lining up for any job that is out there.

It just makes little sense, the team just promoted Spielman. So you bring Tuna in, you have to fire Tuna and Spielman. That makes little sense at this point, or even next year.

Quote:
The Vikings did approach Bill Parcells about running their football operation, a source with knowledge of the situation said on Wednesday, but those conversations happened a long time ago and there has been no recent contact between the sides.

Basically, this is about getting more or enough money from the Saints.
