Some basic rules:
ReggieCamp wrote:

There is no specific requirement for positions to be filled on your team staff, other than appointing an Assistant GM. The Assistant GM can make official posts and trades on the team’s behalf (just like you do), as well as standing in for you when you’re not available.

ReggieCamp wrote:

Using outside communications (email, chat rooms, texting, facebook, etc.) is prohibited. Again, it’s our intention to make FFMD very accessible to the masses, and using communications other than the team forums makes things too exclusive and secretive. PM’s are fine. Public spreadsheets (like Google docs) are fine as reference documents (to use as player codes, for example), but please don’t use a spreadsheet to chat or exchange back-and-forth messages.

This is a draft-only. All rosters will "lock" on the 5th, so whatever we have on our roster then is who we have on our roster for the start of the draft. If we pick up Joe Thomas on April 6th, it won't matter, he isn't on our FFMD12 roster.

Draft picks:

1.24 - Stephon Gilmore, FS/CB, University of South Carolina

Gilmore's raw physical ability is far too much for Carnell Lake and - LeBeau to pass on here. Maybe he ends up being a good CB, but he has the makings of an absolutely dominant Steelers free safety. His size, speed, willingness to tackle, and athletic ability makes him an ideal convert in a very weak safety class. Carnell Lake make the transition from LB to Pro Bowl safety to Pro Bowl Cornerback, and he managed to teach Willie Gay how not to suck. If he can do that, he can convert Stephon Gilmore into a Steelers' defensive back.

Mike Tomlin loves to go by the "best available athlete" mantra, with the idea that he and his staff will coach the player up. It seems to be working fairly well for him, why switch now?

2.56 Kelechi Osemele, OG/RT, Iowa State University

Steelers have a difficult situation to deal with. Their left guard must possess the strength to handle Haloti Ngata, Terrence Cody, Phil Taylor, and Ahtyba Rubin. They have a backup Center as their starting Left Guard who also happens to be a midget (Relatively speaking). Their starting RT hasn't finished a game since 2009. Both positions are rather tenuous, to say the least. Kelechi Osemele certainly possesses the strength and size to handle monsters like Ngata inside, and with yardstick-length arms capable of pushing 36 reps, he also possesses the length and height necessary to handle the RT position.

Fairly close battle within the War Room, but Osemele was the definite winner in the vote department. The addition of Osemele allows the Steelers the flexibility to test him at LG and RT. They can move Willie Colon inside to OG where he belongs, or if Osemele proves dominant inside, he provides the Steelers much needed flexibility, pushing Doug Legursky to the backup Center position where he belongs. Either way, he's a combination of value plus talent meeting need.

3.86 James Brown, LG/LT, Troy University

James Brown, a raw prospect out of Troy, has demonstrated surprising balance, naturally quick and coordinated feet, and despite being 6'3-1/2, his arms are as long as Matt Kalil's and 1/2" longer than the 6'7 Mike Adams. He uses leverage and violent hands as well as impressive athleticism to allow him to play LT regardless of his "lack of height". He learned to play LG at the Senior Bowl, and although he started off rough, he showed that he was a natural at it once he learned the nuances of the position. He has versatility and football smarts, and provides an immediate upgrade to both the athleticism and potential of the LG position, now that the albatross has been discarded.

4.119 Emmanuel Acho, ILB, University of Texas

A smart, instinctive player who can run the defense, play zone coverage, and stack, shed, and sliie his way through the middle to the ballcarrier, Emmanuel Acho makes an excellent addition to the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacking corps.

5.159 Hebron Fangupo, NT, BYU

One of the few experienced, game-ready 0-techs in the NCAA draft, Hebron Fangupo provides the Steelers the run-stuffer they desperately need as Casey Hampton recovers from knee surgery.

6.193 Junior Hemingway, WR, Michigan

At 6'1, 225, he's built almost like a RB, and when he has the ball in his hands, that's how he runs. He is a Steelers' WR prototype, as he is hard to bring down in the open field and will plow into DBs and LBs as a blocker in the run game.

Greg Gabriel, NFP wrote:
He has very good initial quickness and easily gets by jams at the line of scrimmage. On his base routes, he shows very good ability to get in and out of cuts and consistently gains separation. He has good hands and usually catches the ball away from his body. He shows good ability to adjust to the ball in the air and will make some difficult catches.

Solid addition to the Steelers, and should be the next in the list of "Steelers successful late round WR draft picks"

7.231 Michael Smith, RB, Utah St

Michael Smith is the little-known "lightning" to Robert Turbin's "thunder". Despite running as a 2nd back behidn Turbin, Smith broke 1000 yards from scrimmage, had 11 TDs, and put up just under 300 yards rushing in the last 2 games of the season, outgaining Turbin in both games.

The Steelers have a stable full of bruisers, they need a solid CoP back who is a homerun threat. With Baron Batch coming off ACL reconstruction, he may or may not be ready to take over this season.

Michael Smith wrote:
Smith’s favorite part of the day was when he got to catch passes.

“I got out there on the outside acting like I was a wideout,” Smith said with a wide smile. “I did some (receiving) at Utah State, but (today) I was running slants, running deep posts, corners. It was stretching my legs, but knowing that my hamstring is healed fully, I was just trusting my legs — keep running and trusting my hands to catch the ball.”

5'9, 207 lbs
40-yard dash: 4.33
10-yard split: 1.48
Vertical jump: 40-1/2"
Broad Jump: 10'6

Stilerz can haz Darren Sproles in 6th?

7.240 Chase Ford, TE, University of Miami

6'6-5/8"
258 lbs

Chase Ford may end up following in the footsteps of Jimmy Graham as the next great basketball player-turned TE to make it in the NFL. Ford showed his ability in the East-West Shrine game, running a nasty seam route and making a 60+ yard catch and run, outleaping defenders for the ball.

Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com wrote:
Ford was a bit of an unknown entering this week. But he quickly showed off his skills as a natural pass catcher with fluid body control and terrific hand/eye coordination. At 6-feet-6 and 258 pounds, Ford has the size and frame for the position with reliable hands, especially in traffic. He is a bit one-dimensional as a pass-catcher and needs a lot of work as a blocker, but certainly put his name on the draftable radar after his work this week.

7.246
7.248

ok, here we are. this is for the draft only. No free agency, nothing. Our roster gets locked on April 5th, so whomever we have on the 5th is who we have, even if the real-life Steelers make some free agency moves.

So here's the positions and who we have filling them presently:

Steelers FFMD12-Part 2 Staff:
GM - kethnaab
Assistant GM - jebrick
Head Coach - stefan
Offensive Coordinater - Aldo
Defensive Coordinater - KJtheWicked

Scouts (a.k.a. "peanut gallery")
at23steelers
MOSteelers56
Ward4HOF
skywlker32
Aussie_Steeler

I'd really like to get at least 2 guys to put their names in the hat for offensive coordinator and Assistant GM.

offensive coordinator will have a huge say in who we go with on offense, even if I disagree with you. As KJ can probably attest, there are a few players where I'll say 'oh heck no', but otherwise, you're the man.

so SIGN UP HERE!!!

First post from the Peanut Gallery:

As I suggested in my latest mock, we trade 1.24 to the Vikes for 2.35 and swap all our picks from Rd 3-7 as compensation (minus Compensatory, of course), which is within 5 pts on the trade value chart. Then at 2.35, drive 43M nuts yet again and select OG Kevin Zeitler! Cool

All in favor of driving 43M mad again say "I"! The "I"s have it!

J/K 43M. In all honesty, I hope to pick some different players this time around just to make it more interesting!

I'm a big fan of this idea.

I'm also a fan of trading away the 1.24 for next year's 1st rounder (targeting Manti Te'o or another higher round player) and of course, more juice this year in the 2nd, 3rd, etc.

I'd also like to target some trades in the next few days, especially a guy like Paul Soliai if possible.

agreed on picking different players. pretty sure 43 said he's sitting tis one out so harassing him here probably won't cut the mustard.

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

I still need an offensive coordinator. "creative control" of the offense, i.e. you get a huge say in who we target on offense
