Haha, we do tend to pick DL pretty well in the 4th round.

Honestly, the DT talent in round 2 is not much different than in round 4 (once guys like Reyes and Still, those fringe first rd pick players).

I also like Mike Martin quite a bit at 66, to open pick 35 for something else. Kind of reminds me of a Brandon Mebane type, very short and squat, but Martin has very good athleticism going by his combine performance.

I swear we are thinking too much alike. I love Martin at 66. He reminds me of a more athletic Hovan.

As for trading down, if Jeffery and Hill are gone by 35 then I would look to trade back.

What are everyone's views on Janoris Jenkins. Its almost a certain that he falls to round 2 after news came out that he continued to smoke at North Alabama.

There is no doubt that the kid has elite talent and could eventually be a #1 CB but is it worth it. Cook and Jenkins would be great on the field, but huge liabilitys off it. It would be hard to pass on, we don't have the right veterans or personel to keep this kid straight.

I wouldn't have as much of an issue with the act itself, just more so with his entire character. Seems to me the kid just doesn't have much of a clue.

Not a big fan of his game anyway. If I had a different opinion of his skill set I think I could give him more leeway here and there. But in my opinion he's not the sort of player that I'd be willing to take the chance on to begin with.

Listen, all I know is that he is the best pure corner in the draft. If he hadn't been kicked from Florida he'd be a top 5 pick. That said, the MJ problem is... well, a problem. But if he is still on the board at 35 you have to take him. Harvin used to have the same problem at Florida, maybe he could help...?

What would be your guys' opinion if the Vikings went OL again? Amini Silatolu is seeing his stock rise and I have seen some mock drafts where the Vikings draft Cordy Glenn.

i wouldn't be opposed to kalil at 3 and glenn at 35 if and only if we could trade loadholt for a 4th/5th.

If we don't go Jeffrey or the Fonz (my 2 picks assuming none of the DT's slip to us) what are the chances we trade up if a guy like Floyd is there past 17-ish? Probably could be done without a ransom. I hope we nab someone early 20's with our 2nd round being traded. Most years this late first round talent would be cracking top 15 potentially. I'd hate to miss out.

Floyd has little chance of leaving the top 10. Let alone past the Jets at 16. Floyd is basically neck and neck with Justin Blackmon as the best WR in the draft from what ive been reading, with some may even having a preference for Floyd.

Yeah I know, but I'm just saying a 7-12 prospect falling to mid first. I used 17 simply as a halfway point between the first pick and ours, so didn't take into regard teams.

For example Kirkpatrick, Kuechley, DeCastro, etc.

I've a difficult time believing that between the mid-late 1st round WRs -- Stephen Hill, Rueben Randle, Alshon Jeffery, and Kendall Wright -- all will be gone by the time we pick in round 2. You're talking four 1st round talents... I'd be shocked if at least one were not available to us at the top of the second.

Same goes for the CB position. Between Alfonzo Dennard, Brandon Boykin, Janoris Jenkins, Trumaine Johnson, and Jamell Fleming, there is a very solid group of players to be had as well.

Again, this is why taking Matt Kalil at No. 3 is imperative. You don't get a top tier talent at OT in our spot round 2. But you can certainly say differently for WR/CB. I very much like Bobby Massie, but he's not a plug and play LT yet.

Also I think a LB would be an interesting and savvy addition. Lavonte David is a picture-perfect fit, a true playmaker, and has late 1st round ability. The second best OLB in the draft, and the top 4-3 OLB prospect available. I'm a fan of Dont'a Hightower, but he's a player who's of similar style to EJ Henderson -- a stiff hipped, primarily in-the-box linebacker who's not your best bet to cover the deep middle in coverage. Honestly, as good and talented as Luke Kuechly is, I would not in the leats bit be "shocked" if he were available at the top of the 2nd due to his lack of positional value and being that he does not offer pass rushing ability. Not a prediction, but not out of the question.

Basing who you're picking at the top of the draft, let alone as high as #3, on what could be available later on (more like what's perceived to be available) is such a completely backwards strategy. Absolutely mindless and a fool proof way to completely sink your draft in my opinion.

The team should be much more concerned about not only hitting on their pick at the top of the draft but getting an impact. Worry about the rest of the draft as it plays out. As deep as certain positions look right now, it's equally (actually, more likely) that we all look back and laugh at that sort of train of thought a few years down the line.

x 100
The success of this draft in totality will be based on #3 pick.
Anything inside the top 3 is game changer / high impact selections.
A top 3 pick should impact the franchise for 5-10 years.
Who is available depth wise in other rounds and that impacting your selection inside the top 3, is the worst drafting strategy there is.

People need to stop assuming the draft will unfold a certain way because of years past or who they value more. More teams are looking for WRs now more then ever, I've already made an entire post on the matter. Guys like Hill, Wright, and Jefferey will be long gone by 35. Don't believe me? Read this.

Get your guy in round one or else take a project.

Since we have spent 1st round picks on WR already on this team and since we have seen what spending 100 Million on the left side of the line resulted in for once lets go after a potentially game changing CB to help off set the offenses in our division. We have neglected the secondary for so long that I am ready to see a change to having a secondary that is feared for a change rather than a group that DC's take a day off from game planning when we get on the calendar.
