7.240 the Pittsburgh Steelers select
Chase Ford, TE, University of Miami
6'6-5/8"
258 lbs
Chase Ford may end up following in the footsteps of Jimmy Graham as the next great basketball player-turned TE to make it in the NFL. Ford showed his ability in the East-West Shrine game, running a nasty seam route and making a 60+ yard catch and run, outleaping defenders for the ball.
| Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com wrote: | | Ford was a bit of an unknown entering this week. But he quickly showed off his skills as a natural pass catcher with fluid body control and terrific hand/eye coordination. At 6-feet-6 and 258 pounds, Ford has the size and frame for the position with reliable hands, especially in traffic. He is a bit one-dimensional as a pass-catcher and needs a lot of work as a blocker, but certainly put his name on the draftable radar after his work this week. |

7.246 the Pittsburgh Steelers select:
Drew Astorino, SS, Penn St.
5'10 206lbs 4.65 40 yd dash
http://www.gopsusports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/astorino_drew00.html
| Quote: | | Much responsibility has been placed upon on the shoulders of safety Drew Astorino the past two seasons and he has responded with leadership and productivity for the secondary, the defense and special teams. A starter in 24 games the past two years, primarily at strong safety, he has asserted himself as the quarterback of the secondary, a unit that could have four senior starters this fall. The instinctive and intelligent athlete again logged considerable playing time on defense and special teams in 2010 and earned honorable-mention All-Big Ten recognition for the second consecutive year. Astorino played an instrumental role in Penn State ranking second in the Big Ten and No. 16 in the nation in pass defense. He was fourth on the team with 70 tackles, grabbed one interception and was tied for the team lead with five pass breakups. Astorino is one of the squad's surest tacklers and ball-handlers and is a probable All-Big Ten candidate. With a nose for the football, he has a knack for being in position to make a play on any given down or specialty play. The aggressive, determined and quick safety is a hard worker who again will be counted on for substantial contributions and leadership, a role he is familiar with from throughout his athletic career. The 2006 Pennsylvania Class AAA Player-of-the-Year, he led General McLane HS to the PIAA Class AAA football and basketball state titles in 2006-07. General McLane became just the second school to win both state crowns in the same academic year. He scored the game-winning fourth-quarter touchdown in the 28-23 win over Pottsville in the 2006 PIAA title game. On the hardwood, he hit the game-winning shot with :02 left to play, giving his school a 57-55 win over Greencastle Antrim in the 2007 Class AAA state championship game in the Bryce Jordan Center. Astorino was on schedule to earn his degree in August. |

7.248 the Pittsburgh Steelers select:
Scott Solomon, OLB, Rice
6027, 264 lbs.
bench press: 34 reps
Vertical jump: 35"
Broad Jump: 10'4
KEI: 79
3-cone: 7.17
Shuttle: 4.25
Playing as a DE for Rice, Solomon maintained an impressive display of production throughout his career. He finished with 24 sacks, 43.5 tackles for loss, and 207 total tackles, including 8.5 sacks/13.5 TFL, and 55 total tackles during his senior season.

Chases, pursues and plays very hard. Keeps working to the ball. Productive four-year starter. Passionate about the game....Solomon is a barrel-chested, high-motor, see-and-go reactor with the dimensions of a leverage/power rusher |
| NFP wrote: | | works hard and can use his motor and closing speed to still fight toward the play once pushed past the play. Is at his best as a power player. Will line-up both inside and out in passing situations and again gets his hands up quickly, gains leverage and exhibits the lower body strength to create a real push on contact. Again, is a little tight, but knows how to control blocks and does display some suddenness when looking to disengage as a pass rusher. Showcases some natural body control and violence with his hands. Once he gains a step, demonstrates solid range in pursuit and his motor keeps working till the whistle. |
