Anybody else not like the idea of batting Walker cleanup? Neil Walker is an RBI guy but he gets his RBIs from clutch hitting, not Home Runs. In 159 games last year Neil only hit 12 HRs, and has never exceeded 12 in his career. Anybody that knows anything about baseball knows that the cleanup spot is for POWER HITTERS guys that hit HOME RUNS. 12 HRs a year is not a power hitter. I know we don't have any true power hitters until Pedro gets his stuff together, (which he is far from, even though he got a dinger yesterday) but don't bat Neil 4th. Garrett Jones has far more power than Neil, especially at PNC considering Jones hit a lot of towering fly balls to Right Field which is a big advantage at PNC park. Jones has hit 21 Home Runs in his Major League career 2 times (which isn't a ton) but that is nearly double the amount of HRs Walker hits. Even on an off-year for Jones last year he still hit more HRs than Walker. So my point is put Garrett Jones at cleanup over Walker until Alverez becomes the player he should be, or at least bat Jones cleanup against all Right Handed pitching. The 5th spot in the order would be a great place for Walker to bat, that would allow him many opportunities to bat with men on and 2 outs and let his clutch hitting play in. If I'm Clint Hurdle this is my line up.
VS. RHP
1. Presley
2. Tabata
3. McCutchen
4. Jones
5. Walker
6. Alverez
7. Barajas
8. Barmes
9. Pitcher Spot
VS. LHP
1. Presley
2. Tabata
3. McCutchen
4. McGhee
5. Walker
6. Hague
7. McKenry
8. Barmes
9. Pitcher Spot
That's my lineup. |

Anyone else confused here?
Hurdle said Alvarez not playing won't happen much...
So, Pedro, did you keep the bench warm for Hague? _________________ Come Follow My Oakland Multi-Sport Franchise! |

Bell goes yard for the first time today. Also added another hit. Once he gets adjusted to the pitching he is going to be a monster. _________________

I am convinced Pedro Alvarez is the worst regular in the bigs.
Kid is inept. _________________

His problem is he has no plate presence what so ever. He has no discipline. He doesn't think that it's possible to not hit a home run every single at bat.
It sucks. The year he came up, he was looking like an All-Star. Now, he looks like a AAA guy. _________________ Come Follow My Oakland Multi-Sport Franchise! |

Yea 2 for 27 isn't cutting it. Especially with his horrible bat last season. Only positive is that his 2 hits are HR's. And that's stretching positive! _________________

Hes making better contact of late. Its just some good defensive plays standing in his way, they will start to drop soon. Pedro has started slow at every level just give the guy some time. _________________

Anyone going to the game tomorrow by any chance? Or want to?
I'm going to the game tomorrow night, if anyone doesn't have plans, I think It'd be cool to go see it with some fellow Steeler brothers.
I'll be sitting in the Bleachers General Admission. What better way to spend a gorgeous Friday night then going to a Ball game with your fellow brothers? _________________ Come Follow My Oakland Multi-Sport Franchise! |

Wow, had to resurrect this from PAGE 5!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pirates just selected Mark Appel, RHP, Stanford with the 8th overall pick. Most people had Appel going #1 to Houston, but he fell due to the Boras factor. That rotation is going to be STACKED in a couple years. I know they need hitting, but in the MLB draft, you can't really draft based on current needs. This was a great pick for the Bucs! It feels like DeCastro fell to Pittsburgh all over again..... Ok not quite, but close! _________________

I'm shocked Appel fell. They said he was at worst #4, but most likely #1 or #2.
A lot of scouts say he's got the ability, if he continues to work on his technique, to be another Justin Verlander...

That's the first thing I thought of as well. Talk about another steal! The Bucs do have to deal with Boras again but I think they will get Appel to ink a contract. It will probably be one of those last minute deals right before the deadline. This was a no brainer as far as the selection is concerned even with the question about signability.
This was a terrific pick - as long as he stays at pitcher and doesn't get moved to third. Right sc29? _________________
