The bats were very quiet today. It was a tough loss due to how good the pitching was. _________________

Pirates sticking with Pedro Alvarez
| Quote: | BRADENTON, Fla. -- Pedro Alvarez will remain the Pittsburgh Pirates' starting third baseman, despite a deep batting slump that began last season and has carried over into spring training.
In Grapefruit League play, Alvarez is hitting .133 and has struck out in 13 of 30 at-bats.
However, two of his four hits were home runs, and general manager Neal Huntington cast aside the notion that Alvarez might not break camp with the Pirates. |
|
Which Alvarez will show up this year? The rookie one where he showed the power that this team desperately needs or last year's one where he looked completely lost? This is going to be a very pivotal year for him. I don't think he is a bust and I thought he was the right selection when drafted but I hope he can shake off last season's miserable year. He didn't have a good spring but I've never been a guy who puts a lot of value on spring stats.
Disappointing opener but then again they were facing one of the best pitchers in baseball. _________________

When I read this, this reminded me of the part in "40 Days and 40 Nights" where Josh starts tweaking out and claims he saw hot women half-naked every where he went _________________ Come Follow My Oakland Multi-Sport Franchise! |

It's always great to beat any Philadelphia team.
Great hustle from Presley last night to the laser beam of Alvarez's HR and Cutch's GW hit sealing a terrific comeback it was a real nice opening series for the Bucs. _________________

I hope Pedro can bring that power to every game. He made some good contact against some of the NL's best so lets hope he has a solid season _________________

Lets not forget Matt Hague. He had a big RBI. Taking 2 of 3 from Philly is a great way to start the year! _________________

That RBI by Matt Hague was huge, it took some guts to use him as a pinch hitter in that situation since he hadn't gotten a Major League hit yet. I was so ticked at Neil Walker for not catching the ball at 1st base I was throwing ice cubes at the TV, but luckily our we got some clutch hitting when we needed it and it won us the game. Coming back from 3 down late in the game against the Phillies, with Cliff Lee pitching and a bullpen that is anchored by Jonathon Papelbon is not an easy task, but we did it. Great game to give us some confidence and a little momentum going into a tough stretch of away games. |
