If we go MC in the first round- (i'm more of a richardson guy but whatever)
Which 2nd-3rd round back do you think fits us the best out of Lamar Miller, Doug Martin or LaMichael James
Name one and pick a few reasons why- I like a little part of all of their games but theyre all so different it's really interesting to think about which one will fit our teams plans the best |

Doug Martin. He is the best all around back behind Trent. _________________

I like him too- very ray rice like- does he have the breakaway speed though? Good thing is the kid has hands and that will help since blount is a two down back. We really need a back that can take it the distance and not get caught |

| If Blount is the between the tackles guy then we need a guy with hands and speed to play with him. Martin is pretty decent for that. |

When I think of Schiano's running attack I think of the Ray Rice/Brian Leonard combo. If Blount = Leonard (a situational big athlete that can lower the boom and jump over you) then we need a Ray Rice-type of back that can run between the tackles and take the punishment on a consistent basis.
Richardson, Martin, Polk and Pierce are the four guys that fit that role, IMO. _________________

You could make a case for all 3 of those guys. Lamichael James is just explosive and can break a run for a touchdown anytime he touches the ball and great receiving threat too.
Lamar Miller is very fast and crazy agility
But Martin has the most potential to be the all around back that we need I think. Seems like he's just solid all around, but really excels at receiving, which I think Freeman needs. He can be coached up on blocking and should be fine I think with the frame he has _________________

I really like Miller and Polk.
Miller is crazy fast and agile, and can really be an electric player. In terms of Polk, I know he hasn't really had a great offseason but you turn on the tape and see a guy that always seems to get positive yards and is a master and running between the tackles. _________________

I think drafting Morris Claiborne in the 1st Round would be the smart decision. Assuming he is there at 5. I think he will be. This is nothing against Trent Richardson. In fact I think he is an excellent player and the team who drafts him will be very happy with him.
You draft Richardson in the top 5-10 to be the work horse type of RB. I think the Bucs are not giving up on Blount yet. Thus it makes no sense to draft Richardson and get the great Combo RB like Martin, Polk etc in the draft. Plus with the new coaching staff, OL etc you could put any RB out there and they would be made look great.
Blount's weaknesses are: Blocking, picking up the short yardages and catching. That is where the Martin/ Wilson etc guys come in. I think Martin would be the right guy but would be happy with any guy they draft. While Richardson does all that, you can't have your top 5 guy on the bench the first two downs and then come in. Of course you could have both guys on the field at the same but not sure it would be smart since Blount has problems with blocking and catching.
First Round : Morris Claiborne
2nd Round: Doug Martin( would love Lavonte David but think he is gone before our pick in the 3rd Round and think Doug Martin would be the best option for RB).
3rd Round: get LB. |

I would like to have one of the speedier guys but if thats how we evaluated talent then we would be the Raiders..
In that case I would have to say Doug Martin. He isnt super fast but neither was Emmitt Smith. Martin is a complete back that can run with good vision, is agile, can pass catch and block and fights for extra yards. We should probably go with him in the 2nd if we draft Claiborne in the 1st. _________________

It's different in college and the pros, though. In college, the recruits pick you. Especially at Rutgers, where they aren't weeding through top prospects like an LSU or Florida does. In the pros, you pick the prospects. |

I'm not sure how that would change things. Players ultimately choose where they want to play in college, sure, but at the same time coaches recruit players that fit there philosophy. Whether that's in college or the pros that's pretty standard.
We know what Schiano wants to do. He's said it multiple times. Pound the rock and take shots over the top. Our most recent acquisitions definitely fit into that style of offense and I would bet that our draft picks will too. _________________

| I like Martin's all-around game. If he's not there, I really think Pierce would be a good option who may be available in the 3rd. He's got good size, speed and he runs hard. Very productive (over 3,000 yards in three seasons in college). |

so it seems like the majority of us are looking more to the all around type of back martin is than the darren sproles type of impact James or maybe even miller could have?
I like all three of those backs and I really am having a hard time choosing (not a bad thing)
If LaMichael James can hold up physically- like sproles- I would love to pair him with Blount and take a little pressure off Freeman and our wr's because he could take a quick little 3rd down draw to the house and defenses would be conscious of that |
