it used to be the criticism that Spielman doesn't TRY to get FA's signed. now knowing he did try to get Garcon, the criticism is he didn't overpay for him?
Garcon has not yet earned the paycheck WASH has invested in him. he might, he might not yet. but any yak that he is worth those kind of dollars is pure speculation as to how he might turn out. |
Pretty much sums it up. I'm glad we tried for Garcon and I'm not upset that we didn't pay him his lofty sum, but it does unfortunately put us in an uncomfortable position in the draft. Having only 1 above average receiver on your squad is a recipe for disaster and I fear it's going to force some moves in the draft. The pressure is now on Spielman to get it right. He can't do anything but, because there is no room for failure and/or disappointment. _________________

Looking back at the discussion I fail to see where the criticism is coming from concerning the Vikings not acquiring Garcon. Outside of Frank, it's just not there in the least. Just some pointing out of the double speak that plaques this forum from time to time. The staff is lauded for not over-paying a player who has not yet shown his worth for the deal he signed with another team but at the same time, they made an identical mistake with a much more riskier player to play a less viable roll.
Doesn't add up. |

sorry if i ruffled any feathers in here, i guess i was referring to other threads' discussions against Spielman's techniques, in more than just this thread. he certainly has been criticized in here repeatedly for not being active enough in FA, and now we find out the Vikes were active in the first hour of the first day.
that's all i'm trying to point out. i think a lot of guys are extra touchy lately.
my apologies again if i was out of line. _________________

Its rumored that the Bills are shopping Leodis McKelvin. Any interest? Aside from the MNF incident I haven't really followed his NFL career. Bill fans say he has been torched playing man coverage but pretty good when in zone. Could be an interesting name to follow. _________________

I would pass until draft day. If MN cant land a CB in the first 3 rounds, I would then consider trading for McKelvin, or maybe even post draft depending upon how the roster shapes up. I would prefer CBs who can play man and zone, MN wont be running a pure zone scheme, that is nearly impossible in todays NFL. In that case, your stuck with another Cedric Griffin on the outside who has never been real effective in man coverage. |
