news is breaking that it has been determined from written documents that New Orleans Saints players and coaches were involved in monetary payouts as rewards to injure players, to the point where they left games.
wow.
not just rumor, but documented evidence. the NFL knew about it apparently, contacted the team owner who told his coaches to stop, and they did not.

My favorite QB of all time, Kurt Warner, was injured by them a week before they terrorized my favorite team in the 2009 playoffs.
Absolutely despicable. |

Favre never recovered from the injuries sustained in the 2009 NFC Championship game and it completely ruined our 2010 season as well.

it appears that a fund was set up to pay the players and coaches contributed to it.
THAT'S very problematic for the NFL.
what good is a greater sensitivity to concussions when you have bounty hunters on the field accepting payouts? _________________

If Gregg Williams promoted this (and Sean Peyton...but, I suspect it was defense that did this) then he should be banned from the sport permanently!! |

it's not out of the question, but lawsuits would flood in.
but keep in mind Belichick was fined $500,000 for his role in filming other teams. you have to rate intentionally injuring players at a MUCH higher penalty level than that. _________________

Saints fans on this forum are being more than classy about the whole thing too. That's really good to see. |

And this surprises you?
You didn't get the impression that they were purposely trying to take Favre out the game with cheap shots in the 2009 NFC Championship? _________________

it doesn't surprise me at all, their intent was OBVIOUS.
what is surprising is that there is actually documented evidence that shows it to be true. i mean, who writes this kind of stuff down in memos and sends it around? _________________

And the comments that were made throughout the week prior to the game? This does not surprise me in the least...I really had little, if any, respect for Sean Payton, but any respect I did have now is gone (for allowing it to happen). If there ever were a reason for the NFL to institute a rule similar to the NCAA's "lack of institutional control", this would be it. _________________

In the immortal words of Happy Gilmore, "who gives a -"
Really, who cares? Are they going to make New Orleans forfeit the Super Bowl? They got their ultimate reward for doing what they had to do. Complaining about it now is just sour grapes.
In fact, I'm disappointed that the Vikings didn't use the same strategy against the Saints. _________________

And I'd also like to add that Jeff Fisher should fire Gregg Williams immediately. _________________

Well, here in Canada there's a huge Watergate-type scandal brewing over alleged fraud in last year's federal election. And the perpetrators apparently were not too bright.
So nothing surprises me any more.
