RE-SIGN
Dave Ball (DT) – A veteran player who won’t cost much to keep. He’s not a Pro Bowler, but he’s a very solid player who can hold his own.
Donnie Avery (WR) – The coaches seem to like this receiving corps and Avery should be right in the mix pushing these guys for a spot. With the release of the FB position and a few other players, we should have room to carry 6 WRs in this offense.
Jordan Babineaux (SS) – He could serve as a decent stopgap for a year or 2, without breaking the bank, until we find his successor.
Patrick Bailey/Tim Shaw (LB) – Special team gunners are always needed.

FRANCHISED
Michael Griffin (FS) – Performance has been declining for 3 straight seasons. Hopefully, he’ll turn it around. Originally had him to be released, but we slapped the tag on him. So that buys us some time.

RELEASE
Jason Jones (DE) – Good disruptive player, but inconsistent and injury prone.
William Hayes (DE) – Situational pass rusher and nothing more.
Barrett Ruud (ILB) – Bad signing and complete waste.
Cortland Finnegan (CB) – Solid player and hate to lose him, but he might price himself right out of town. (Tommy Campbell will fill in.)
Shaun Smith (DT) – He’s been a big body of worthlessness. He’s just big a waste of space. (Zach Clayton will fill in.)
Ahmard Hall (FB) – His position will become pretty much obsolete in this new offense.
Chris Hope (SS) – He’s out of gas and time.
Daniel Graham (TE) – Time for a youth movement here. (Cameron Graham will fill in.)
Leroy Harris (OG) – They say he’s the 6th best OG in the NFL, but they must mean the 6th best at sucking.
Quinn Johnson (FB) – He might be useful…to somebody else.

FA SIGNING(S)
Mario Williams (DE) – We’re about $30 million under the cap and are in need of an elite pass rusher. Mario would provide that plus a veteran presence on the D-line. With the release of some veteran starters and other players, that should free up make more room in the budget to sign him. He and Derrick Morgan will bookend the D-line, with Morgan getting back to his true form.

This will be the only major FA signing needed. All others will be addressed in the draft.

2012 DRAFT

1st Round: LB - Zach Brown (UNC)…the fastest and most athletic LB in the combine will complete our young LB corps. He’s a natural impact player with playmaking ability and could do wonders for our defense all-together. The biggest problem with him is his work ethic. He relies too much on his athleticism to compensate for his poor work habits. I dare to say that he’s basically the “Vince Young” of LBs. Being that he’s not a QB or in the top 10 pick, the risk wouldn’t be as costly if we gambled on him.

2nd Round: C – Peter Konz (WU)…this will be the steal of the 2nd round (at least for us) as our new O-line caller that will allow us to kick Amano back to the OG position. It’s easier to find decent OGs than it is to find decent Centers IMO, which is why I’d prefer to take Konz.

3rd Round: DT – Brandon Thompson (Clemson)…he’s not flashy or loaded with stats, but he’s very disruptive and eat up blockers. He can play both the 4-3 (DT) and 3-4 (NT) systems. He’s quick off the snap, has a good motor and good leadership skills. He’s a better run stuffer than pass rusher.

4th Round: S – Winston Guy (UK)…has good instincts, great tackling with size and speed. He’s also a good ST player. He could be a good 1-year understudy at the Safety position behind either Griffin or Babineaux. His main knock is he has poor recovery speed, but great against the run.

5th Round: WR – Brian Quick (ASU)…seems to be flying under the radar, which could be a good pickup (possibly a steal) for us. He’s another big target with plenty of upside. Good athleticism, hands, downfield ability, leaping ability and run after the catch. He can complement any receiver on our roster and excel in our system. His problem is limited route running, raw, and lackluster straight line speed. Good pick at this spot.

6th Round: CB – Trumaine Johnson (Montana)…good size and speed, physical with playmaking ability and plenty upside. He could become the second 6’2 DB on the roster with Tommy Campbell if picked. He’s a good pick for depth and development. He still has raw cover skills with questionable work ethic.

7th Round: TE - Cory Harkey (UCLA)…he’s not a great passing option, but a great blocker in the run and pass game. He has excellent blocking technique and ability with the size and strength to match. This guy could be the HB/TE prospect we need for this offense. If he’s willing to be that blue-collar lunch pail guy, he’d be an awesome asset for us.

This would be an ideal draft IMO, but as far as Leroy Harris goes; He's not a bad Guard. Jake Scott and Amano are our weak links on the line. Jake is gone, so IMO Carl Nicks would be the splash I was looking for. But I Love this draft philosophy. Oh, and one more thing, getting McClain to replace Ahmard Hall would re-assure that Chris has a competent blocker in front of him... That is all... Great draft and free agency ideas...

Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool

I like it alot.

Swap Brown and Konz,i.e Konz in the first and Brown in the second.
Too be honest I dont really like Brown at all but in the second round he'd be a good pick-up, perfect for our weak side.

Thompson is the perfect run stuffer for us. If I was to make a DT to fit with Mario ____ Casey Morgan, he'd look alot like Thompson.
I think he is gonna be a steal in the 2/3 round.

I like Guy and Johnson picks and a late TE would be nice.

I dont see us drafting a WR at all. I like that your resigning Avery, I think he could have a decent year with us.

Also with the cuts you have made and the budget we have, we can afford a few more FA signings with Mario, were not gonna pay him 30m.

Overall I would be delighted if it went down like this.

Can't imagine we dump the fullback altogether. Last time we did that (when Eddie was still around) it was a disaster. Even the most explosive offenses, e.g. New Orleans and Green Bay, still use the FB frequently.

That's why we have Craig Stevens.

There is no shot Trumaine drops that far.
He will go 2nd round

There's also no chance Konz or Thompson falls that far.

Your 5th and 6th round picks will both be gone by the 4th round of the draft

Well, projections are that Quick will be gone by the at least the 3rd round.

Guy on the other hand might be there in the 5th.

As for the draft itself.

Not a fan of most of it.

I love UNC and their players, but Brown just doesn't deserve to be an 1st rounder. His play doesnt match his ability level. I think he will be a bust in the NFL.

Konz don't care for him either. I don't think a rookie Center is the answer. I think we need an experienced Center and I think the Titans feel that way also.

Trumaine Johnson I like but he won't be there in the 6th round. He is projected to be a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Quick, Thompson and Guy are all picks I wouldn't hate but don't really excite me or feel like we are truly improving the team.

The draft and off-season wouldn't get me super hyped, but the Mario Williams signing would balance the draft disappointment and excitement.

Overall, I'd give it a C+ for the fact I don't like Brown or Konz as picks and Johnson and Quick won't be there most likely when you have them picked.
