Bengals sign this guy. Should be the perfect guy to rotate with MJ93 at RDE... _________________

Wouldn't mind the Ravens picking him up if Jarret Johnson isn't coming back. Seems to fit what Ozzie usually does in free agency. A veteran who has supposedly lost a step.
And you can put me in the whoever gets Mario Williams is making a mistake group. And it's not because he isn't one of the better pass rushers out there. But whoever gets him is most likely going to pay him like a Hall of Famer. And he has not produced like that. _________________

It would set their franchise back even further than the Julio Jones trade did.
I'll laugh if they do. |
how would upgrading the pass rush hurt the franchise when we have over 35M in cap space right now? re-sign Grimes, Lofton, Decoud, McClure, Weems, Snelling and Douglas, we would still have the money to go after Super Mario. |
Spending that much money on a FA player when you look beyond just this year, will hurt your franchise, particularly when you have Ryan, Turner, and White all going to want new contracts in the next 2-3 years. Plus obviously all of those guys you just listed, plus with giving up as much as you did for Julio you're going to need to utilize FA more since you're missing some key high picks to help build the team.
Spending big dollars in FA is typically not a good thing for a team -- we've seen that over the years. Yes, some pay off, but those teams that spend the big bucks on FAs typically aren't the perennial winners. The Falcons already put themselves in a tough position by giving up all those picks for Julio, I just think that if they go ahead and spend all the money that Super Mario is going to want on top of that, they're just digging themselves a deeper hole. |
current cap for the following years and players under contract for Atlanta:
2012 - 90M towards cap with 47 players under contract (projected 35M in cap space @ 125M cap)
2013 - 80M towards cap with 22 players under contract (projected 50M in cap space @ 130M cap)
2014 - 50M towards cap with 12 players under contract (projected 85M in cap space @ 135M cap)
2015 - 26M towards cap with 3 players under contract (projected 114M in cap space @ 140M cap)
2016 - 6M towards cap with 1 players under contract (projected 139M in cap space @ 145M cap)
So what were you saying again? Falcons can make a bunch of signings this offseason and as long as they are mindful of their future cap a guy like Mario Williams will be easy to fit under cap. This also makes the most sense to re-sign a guy like Ryan to lower the cap even more. |
You're missing my point. I feel like I'm talking with Jets fans from last off-season all over again.
We'll agree to disagree. _________________

I don't think anyone is viewing Mario as having "lost a step" unless I missed something.
And Ozzie, if we pick up a FA, is typically a stop gap kind of guy, or one medium splash -- Mario would be a big splash. There's not a shot of us really going after him, tbh, and I'm glad that's the case. Like you said, he's going to get a big contract and history shows that more often than not, those types of moves hurt your franchise more than it helps them. _________________

Abraham wants QB money
| Quote: | The Atlanta Falcons appear to be on the verge of letting their top pass rusher walk into free agency. That might be their wisest move.
Defensive end John Abraham reportedly wants a deal that will pay him more than $12 million a year. His agent said he plans to meet with the Falcons at the scouting combine this weekend for a final attempt at getting a deal done, but said the two sides remain far apart. |

I really have no issue with players aiming high, but some players are just delusional, and just look like idiots for bringing up what absurd price they are looking for. Agents of players too.
Abraham is going to be 34, and while he is still a quality pass rusher, doesnt have the same burst he used to. He also isnt that good against the run anymore since his lateral quickness has declined as well.
IMO, Abraham should consider himself lucky if he can get a 2 year deal worth $6 to 7 per. _________________

I just honestly can't see anyone signing him to something along the lines of a 3/36 million like they are saying he wants. for a 34 year old pass-rusher with declining skills and a little bit of injury history. I see Abe being worth 2/15 or close to that at maximum. |

12M a year? He'll be lucky to get 4M a year. He's still talented but turns 34 in May. Nothing more then a rotation guy at this point. _________________

He's still a very good starter, much more worthy than $4M.
He's aged better than others. _________________

Jumping the gun a bit on his decline? I'm pretty sure people were saying the same things after 2009 and then he had 13 sacks in 2010. Everyone needs to quit declaring every 30+ player's career over as soon as he doesn't have a Pro Bowl season. _________________

Maybe that was a bit harsh. Let's put it this way, he could start but wont be a everydown player. _________________

There aren't a lot of defensive lineman who are every-down players anyway. You make it sound like he's a fringe starter. _________________

You know what he means though. Abraham won't have the expected motor and conditioning as your average defensive end. _________________ You are on my DISLIKE list, Denver.
