Michael Engew is killing the combine. 4.53 40 @6'5" and 253 lbs with a great broad jump. _________________

Apparently Dont'a Hightower showed up at 6'2" and 265 lbs.
That is way too big for a 4-3 mike imo. _________________

Money is on him dropping 20 lbs and playing TED in a 3-4. I have the Steelers pegged as taking him as a potential replacement for Farrior. |

Dwayne Allen hurt his stock today with a 4.89 forty. He's also apparently a self proclaimed diva? He's not going to be a first round pick. If he's there in the 2nd and we don't draft a TE in the 1st, I'd consider him though.
Orson Charles didn't help himself measuring in at 6'2".
I think Fleener is the best TE in the class because of his size. His ability to run and separate is evident on tape, even though he didn't run at the combine.
Egnew is intriguing because of the way he performed today.
Green is basically a WR.
If we don't land Fleener, Egnew or Allen, I think we need to go the free agency route. _________________

Wow, that's barely better than Cordy Glenn's. _________________

I agree with everything you said. I still really like Allen. I think his game doesnt translate well to drills. He is a solid blocker and route runner. I never thought he'd wow me at the combine.
I still like Charles because he is strong. He can develop into a beast.
A couple of guys that caught my eye also was Evan Rodriguez from Temple and Drake Dunsmore and James Hanna. Evan and Drake are surprisingly athletic and I feel they can play FB and TE. James showed great speed and athletic ability. _________________

I understood he may have even played some C. If thats the case he could very well be the pick since the Giants love versatile linemen. _________________

He did but not for long stretches of games so I'm not very sure what to tell you there.
Green, Fleener and Egnew are going to be the next big mismatches in the NFL. Green needs to get stronger though his hands are really good. Egnew does body catch sometimes but he also possesses some quality hands and he was third among TE in the 40 and that's what most people thought was his problem was that scouts thought he didn't have speed to find separation but he's proved me correct as one of the more athletic TE's in this draft. Allen fell to #3 on my board of TE prospects today, behind Fleener and Charles (in that order). Running a 4.89 or 4.78 isn't very good . Charles didn't do himself any favors by choosing not to run and 6'2" doesn't help him either. Mike Adams also hurt his stock big time yesterday. Cordy Glenn is going to be a stud in the NFL from the start. _________________

Someone noted earlier Brandon Pettigrew ran a 4.8 and still went 20 overall. I don't get caught up in the 40 times that much and the tape doesn't lie. I still have Allen above Charles and have him at 1a and 1b with Fleener. I put Fleener at 1a because I like his size and frame as a better fit for the Giants if they did go TE. _________________ 44 and 21 Once a Giant, always a Giant

Like I said man, kid's gonna be a superstar.
I think the Giants are gonna find a very good player at 32. Someone's gonna drop right into our laps _________________

I agree with what Greg Cossell had to say in regards to mobile QBs. At the end of the day, you want a QB that can make all the throws from the pocket. That is by far the most important thing.
Athleticism stunts a QBs development. They're not going to want to hang around the pocket and learn to make the throws. They'll be tucking and running. And the end result is you get Vince Young, or Michael Vick in a best case scenario. Guys that can't anticipate throws and are easily flushed from the pocket. Yeah, they can hurt you with their legs. But their passing ability is average. _________________

I agree. This may be a QB's league, but the ones that tend to succeed on a regular basis are the pocket passers. Look at the top tier of QBs, how many are quick to rush out of the pocket?
Those that are can't sustain their success (i.e. Michael Vick). |

Lamar Miller put up a 4.38 in his first run with a pretty bad start. Ronnie Hillman put in a 4.41 on his first run. LaMichael James put in a dazzling 4.37 not shabby. Pead put in a nice time as well, 4.41. Chris Rainy matched James with a 4.37. _________________
