Routt signed a 5 year/54M contract over the summer. He was a massive disappointment last year for Oakland

Was he due a bonus?
Not surprising, overpaid for the amount of production. Good speed but limited coverage skills.

What a horrible, horrible move. Routt's not on some Revis/Asomugha level or even a Jonathan Joseph level, but he's a solid CB that makes plays and holds guys in check for the most part. So now we are stuck with a horrible CB in Chris Johnson, two extremely raw mid round picks, and Michael Huff who has been nothing special when lined up at CB....all of which without a good draft pick. If this is to build for the future, it's an awful idea. We traded too much for Palmer to start from scratch.

This better mean something big is coming our way.

That depends what you see as a disappointment. He had a decent season, but made the kind of money from which you expect a lot more than a decent season.

Pretty good in coverage, but soooo many penalties. Did he not have more penalties on him than the whole Packers defense? Or something stupid like that.

Color me confused.... too much money for Routt, but he's much better than anyone on that team at CB right now.

The Packers defense wasn't really known for their penalties, so maybe.

Isn't the Raiders cap real tight right now? Plus you have no draft picks, I am not sure what you guys can expect that can be considered big, at least a positive big....

That was my thought as well, hopefully (for Raiders fan) they'll be aggressive via the draft and free agency to address this. They don't have a ton of draft picks but their secondary is starting to look pretty weak in terms of talent and depth.

Yes. He was. That was the 3rd highest contract for a CB. You think he played as well as that? Or even top 15? ProFootballFocus (take with grain of salt obviously) had him at 89th overall.

I'm not sure he's a top 32 corner, let alone top 5. It was an awful signing, and a mediocre (at best) season is a massive disappointment given the money involved.

He was a HUGE disappointment last year... I drank the kool-aid after last season...

He was a league leader in 9 TD's given up, led the league in 17 penalties(more than entire Packers D) and has always been non-existant and unwilling to help in run D. Rated as one of the worst in the dept. by PFF.

Idk why some Raider fans are trippin'. We're not going into next season with Van Dyke & Chekwa as starters, we'll definitely make a splash for a bigger name CB, one who's better than Routt.

Imo, the organization doesn't expect much for next year. Apparently, they will get rid of everyone they deem overpaid right now to be able to start clean in 2013. 2012 will be a transition year. We surely can't be agressive in the draft since we have no pick or in free agency since we have no cap room.

Wow. I am kinda surprised. I didn't know he struggled like he did tho. I watched like 6 Raider games and saw hi get beat but didn't realize he led NFL in penalties and TDs given up. Shocked

Wasn't it a 3 year/31.5M?
