As I indicated the other day, #Bears will not retain Tim Ruskell. He is officially out, two sources tell me.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Glad I was wrong when I insisted Ruskell would be promoted to GM.

How do you guys think the Emery hire is going to go over with the fanbase?

Most of us here are either pleased or willing to give him a chance.

When the Bears announced he was hired, the story from their official site popped up on my Facebook feed. Looking at the comments, a few people were backing Emery, a few mentioned Marc Ross, but most of them were heavily in support of Jason Licht. I'm not sure how to read into that. I've posted on their official forum before and left after one day because of how outlandish some of the posters are.

Yeah I used to read that before I found FF, they really are very negative. The Bears can do nothing right according to them. Hopefully, even if some fans don't agree with the hiring of Emery then they are at least willing to give him a chance. Constantly criticising the team you support and dismissing decisions they make straight away helps in no way whatsoever.

Also, great news about Ruskell. It definitely makes sense for him to leave seeing as he didn't get the GM job, plus he's just Angelo v2.0

The first (and only) time I posted on that forum was early in 2007, when Grossman was still starting. People were calling for Griese to start, and I replied with a comparison of their career numbers. They "ripped me apart" by informing me that Griese "manages the game and doesn't throw interceptions." Laughing And we all know how many picks he threw his first start at Detroit...

The casual fan will think that since we chose a Chiefs employee over a Patriots employee means that this is a horrible hire. They will act as if Licht would have brought Belicheck, Brady, and Mankins with him. They're not going to look at the actual details of each candidate and make their decision based off of what they personally have done in their career as opposed to looking at the success of the team that they worked for.

On the Trib's site the other day they had a poll asking how fans liked the hire of Emery and it was a landslide result with something like 70% of responses not liking him.

The more educated and dedicated fans, like ourselves who spend hours upon hours discussing the team with people from all over the world whom of which we'll likely never meet in person, will basically do the opposite of the above. We look at the details, see who the guy really is, and discuss the pros and cons of him. Most of us will realize that he is not JA and are grateful for that, and as you said, are willing to give him a chance to succeed.

EDIT: I must have looked at the poll when it was first published, thus giving it such lopsided results. The results are now a much more even 49/51 split, still not in favor of the hire.

Figures. Having lived in northeast Illinois all my life, I can safely say if the Bears managed to trade a 7th round pick for Jason Pierre-Paul and Hakeem Nicks, half of Chicago would groan loudly in disapproval.

At least you're not listening on 670 AM. B&B giggling and playing stupid audio clips during the presser is really annoying.
