This will be my final mock off-season until free agency hits, then it will be just draft picks.
Estimated cap room:$14.17 million
Re-sign:
LeSean McCoy, 6 years, $35 million, $20 guaranteed
Evan Mathis, 3 years, $9 million, $2 guaranteed
Derek Landri, 4 years, $18 million, $8 guaranteed
Antonio Dixon, 2 years, $2 million all guaranteed plus incentives
King Dunlap, 1 year, $3.75 million all guaranteed
Owen Schmitt, 2 years, $2.5 million, $1.25 guaranteed
I used MJD, Harvey Dahl, Nick Fairley, Winston Justice, and Vontae Leach as reference points.
Rough estimate on spent cap space so far: $21.1 million
Cut:
Winston Justice
Joselio Hanson
Jammal Jackson
Darryl Tapp
Cap space created: $8.8 million
Franchise: DeSean Jackson
Trade:
DeSean Jackson to 49ers for their first round pick
Asante Samuel to Lions for 3rd round pick
49ers pick in the first to Cleveland for their second, their fourth, and their fifth
Cap space created: $8.4 million
Total cap space: $10.24
Free agents signed:
Manny Lawson, 3 years, $12 million, $4.5 guaranteed
Vincent Jackson, 4 years, $45 million, $10 guaranteed
David Garrard, 1 year, veteran minimum
Between the cuts made before training camp and working some money around, this shouldn't be a problem.
Draft:
Round 1: Dre Kirkpatrick, DB
Round 2, Cleveland: Andre Branch, DE
Round 2: Zebrie Sanders, OT
Round 2, Arizona: Bobby Wagner, LB
Round 3: Michael Brewster, C
Round 3, Detroit: Ladarius Green, TE
Round 4, Cleveland: Isaiah Pead, HB
Round 4, Tampa: Juron Criner, WR
Round 4: Marquis Maze, WR
Round 5, Cleveland: Brett Roy, DT
Round 5: Garth Gerhart, OC/OG
Round 6: Austin Davis, QB
Round 6, Denver: Bryan Anger, P
Round 6, New England: Julian Miller, DE
Depth chart:
QB-Vick, Garrard, Kafka, Davis
HB-McCoy, Lewis, Pead
FB-Schmitt, Havilli
TE-Celek, Harbor, Green
WR-Jackson, Maclin, Avant, Criner, Cooper, Maze, Hall
LT-Peters, Dunlap
LG-Mathis, Gerhart
C-Kelce, Brewster
RG-Watkins, Vandervelde
RT-Herremans, Sanders
LDE-Babin, Graham, Miller
LDT-Jenkins, Dixon, Roy
RDT-Patterson, Landri, Thornton
RDE-Cole, Branch, Hunt
SAM-Lawson, Fokou
MIKE-Chaney, Wagner, Lloyd
WILL-Rolle, Clayton, Matthews
CB-Asomugha, DRC, Kirkpatrick, Marsh, Hughes, Lindley
FS-Allen, Coleman
SS-Jarrett, Anderson, Nelson
K-Henery
P-Henry, Anger
LS-Dorenbos
This is 64 of 80 allotted players for our training camp roster, so that's 17 spots for UDFAs or veteran free agents who slipped through the cracks.
Spots we could use depth at for those 16 spots are HB, special teams, safety, corner, WR, tight end, o-line and DE. _________________

I stopped reading at trading a 1st to Cleveland when they already have 2 picks in the first. Makes no sense. _________________

Not bad. Nothing really out of the realm of possibility.
I would be pretty happy if the draft were to play out like this.
My only issue would be taking 2 OL in the first 3 rounds. OL isn't really a need for us. Sure we could use a back-up with some potential to groom but if no one on our line gets severely injured in the next 3 years, the chances of one of those guys playing is pretty slim. Personally, I think taking a DT with one of those picks would make more sense. With the rotation and current DT's on our roster, he would generate more of an impact. I do like both Brewster and Sanders as prospects though. |

Sure it does. The Browns need playmakers, not a bunch of depth. No point in having depth if you don't have starters. If two of the three draft picks pan out, then they've drastically improved their team. _________________

so....
with 10.24 million you get lawson (@4 mil) Jackson (@11.25mil) and Garrard (@>1mil) as well as sign all of your draft picks....

Did anyone finally find a reliable source for our cap figure? I hear 30-40 million and then I heard 10. |

Well a bunch of our guys are going to be cut before the offseason like I said, and there are ways to manipulate the cap. I would probably cut Mike Patterson unless there was a bunch of injuries at DT or everyone else really underwhelmed. That would save $2 million.
We could re-sign Herremans to a new deal. He's on a 2 year deal with basically $2 million and some change going to him both years. We could sign extend him to say 4 years, pay him only say a million this year, and then more the next couple years. Same goes for Trent Cole.
We only have to create $6 million
Chad Hall-$540,000
Mike Patterson-$2,100,000
Casey Matthews-$465,000
Greg Lloyd-$465,000
Cedric Thornton-$465,000
Julian Miller-$375,000
Stanley Havilli-$465,000
Brandon Hughes-$540,000
Tom Nelson-$465,000
Chas Henry-$450,000
Graig Cooper-$390,000
Mike Kafka-$540,000
Zane Taylor-$390,000
Domonique Johnson-$615,000
Cutting those players would save $8.27 million. We could give Lesean more money than I suggested.
And to the other guy, just because a deal is for 4 years or 3 years doesn't mean that's how long you keep him. You look at the guaranteed and how the money is dealt out.
Like the Landri deal. He's only guaranteed $2 million per year, which he's earned. He's a very good rotational player. Defensive tackles that can penetrate the pocket up the middle are a valued commodity. He has the potential to earn over $4 million a year though. If by year 4 he's outperformed his contract, we pay the man.
And the Evan Mathis deal, only $2 million is guaranteed for a 3 year deal. Which means the last year or two isn't guaranteed. We're paying him $2 million up front and if he stays healthy he gets $9.
And Desean Jackson is definitely worth a late first round pick. He's a proven playmaker. Before this season his trade value would have been a top 15 pick. 49ers need a speedy WR to complement their tight ends, Crabtree and Morgan. The 49ers run a west coast like we do. It's Desean's hometown. This trade makes sense for numerous reasons. _________________

Accually, cutting those players does nothing. Only the top 50 contracts go agaist the cap. _________________

I've always used:
www.eaglescap.com
Probably both work I just feel like eagles cap is much more comprehensive and easier to find the info that you need without doing your own math. _________________
