Pretty sure Harris isn't a FA....
Gaither won't be a RT.... and he is without a doubt the most important person that needs to be signed. He was the most dominant tackle over those last five games. _________________

Well, he is...
I actually did mean to list him as a LT. I'll fix. I knew he would be a great sign if we brought him in but I didn't think it would be this good. Glad to see your opinion of him changed lol... Idk about "without a doubt the most important" because Hardwick can certainly be argued, and possibly even VJ too. In the end I'd take Gaither, but still debatable.
As long as our whole oline doesn't quit the team, Gaither--Dielman--Hardwick--Vasquez--McNeill should kick [inappropriate/removed]. _________________

Neither McNeill or Gaither would be any good at RT.... _________________

Don't see why McNeill wouldn't work out. We better give him a freaking shot. If not, good ol Clary will be back for the start. _________________

Not necessairly. McNeill is a pure LT and Gaither won't play RT. _________________

Name, Pos, Importance/Value Rating Out of 10
Nick Hardwick, C, - 10
Vincent Jackson, WR - 9.5
Jared Gaither, LT - 10 if McNeil is done, otherwise he is gone
Mike Tolbert, RB - 8
Jacob Hester, FB - 5
Antonio Garay, NT - 7
Tommie Harris, DE - 5
Steve Gregory, SS - 3
Scott Mrwhatever, C/G - 3
Patrick Crayton - 0
Paul Oliver, S - 2
Randy McMichael, TE - 6
Na'il Diggs -0
Stephen Cooper - 1
Brandyn Dombro, RT - 1
Kory Sperry, TE - 0
Tony Moll, OT - 0
Bob Sanders, SS - 0
If McNeil is back and healthy I don't see the Chargers letting him go for Gaither.
And Clary is likely the 2012 right tackle since Norv and AJ are still around. Yay! |

After Gaither's performance..... a first and third at the least. McNeill, probably a conditional 4th or 3rd or something.
We have to keep Gaither. _________________

Even if McNeill doesn't retire, I believe we can still keep Gaither. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Charging-in-the-McNeill-deal.html
From that article, it sounds like we can cut McNeill without owing him any money, as long as it's before his physical in March- that way his release wouldn't be injury related.
If it were up to me, I'd cut McNeill as soon as possible and then negotiate a contract with Gaither. With McNeil rapidly declining and becoming injury prone, he's just no where close to being worth $10m. Gaither, on the other hand, should be one of the best tackles in the league going forward. But this is AJ Smith we are talking about here, so he'll probably let Gaither walk for nothing and act like McNeil is worth $10m.
And regardless of what happens with Gaither/McNeil, it's fairly obvious Clary will be our starting RT next season in all likelihood. AJ just has blind love for him. But I think even with Clary, we could still have a very good overall Oline if Gaither, Dielman, and Hardwick are all brought back and Greene is put at RG.
As for the thread, I would try to bring back Hardwick, Jackson, Gaither, Hester, Harris, Sperry, and maybe Garay(depending on how much he wants). I wouldn't make a contract offer to anyone else listed. |

That's debatable. If AJ had blind love for Clary he'd have given him the same contract that Olivea didn't earn but still got. Instead, Clary's contract was frontloaded and he's a cheap-release this season or next depending on if someone ever gets the opportunity to showcase that they're more deserving of the top spot on the DC at RT. Where the concern will lie is that I don't expect certain spots to change on AJ, i.e. he's not going to draft an RT (or swing-tackle to replace Dombrowski) any earlier than the 3rd round at the earliest and more likely the 4th round. Which means we're likely facing the prospect of some high floor, but pretty much at his ceiling tackle prospect (I love Zusevics, but this is pretty much what he is) or a guy who's more of a Jah Reid type prospect who needs a year to grow into the position at the pro level (like UAB's Matt McCants or Utah's Tony Bergstrom). _________________

I still believe that Clary and McNeill will be kept and we'll let Gaither go. Hope I'm wrong but I don't see us cutting McNeill after his huge contract and don't see AJ finally realizing Clary is trash. Really really hope I'm wrong since Gaither was a ridiculous beast, but this is AJ's MO. _________________

Name, Pos, Importance/Value Rating Out of 10
10 - Nick Hardwick, C, Wasn't overly keen on Hardwick the past couple years, but this year he showed how much he was worth. Of all the sacks and pressures Rivers received 1 or 2 were from Hardwicks man.
7 - Vincent Jackson, WR, And the only reason he's a 7 is because of the quality FA class of WR.
10 - Jared Gaither, LT, Best LT in the league
4 - Mike Tolbert, RB, I'd rather go after someone cheaper.
Jacob Hester, FB, is the guy we overpaid for.
3 - Antonio Garay, NT, Wasn't near as dominant as last year but he's a big body.
7 - Tommie Harris, DE, Really showed he could still play in a limited roll.
0 - Steve Gregory, SS, He's already overvalued himself.
3 - Scott Mruczkowski, C/G, I think Green is now our premier backup C/G
0 - Patrick Crayton, didn't do enough given his opportunities.
3 - Paul Oliver, S, can't go into the draft with 2 safeties.
3 - Randy McMichael, TE, he's a checkdown TE with questionable hands.
0 - Na'il Diggs, if he actually was decent in pass defense I'd consider him but he was as bad as Spikes.
4 - Stephen Cooper, If he's healthy he's far better than any of the over the hill linebackers we brought in this past offseason.
6 - Brandyn Dombro, RT, Solid backups are tough to keep.
7 - Kory Sperry, TE, I think he's going to be our #2 TE next year.
0 - Tony Moll, OT
Retired - Bob Sanders, SS, _________________

| Hey I'm looking for an honest opinion on Mruczkowski. I think you guys are for sure going to re-sign Hardwick now that Dielman retired and let Scott walk. I thought he played well in 2009 when Nick went down, but he hasn't gotten any meaningful playtime since. Any news on him? What is your opinion of the guy? I think he could potentially be an underrated sign for a team looking for competition at C, but I haven't really followed him closely since 09. |

2 years ago, I didn't see a difference between Hardwicks and his play. _________________
