Baseball update: John-Austin came in today in the 5th inning of a 7 inning game...Tusculum up 5-3, one out and tying run at the plate. He threw 6 strikeouts over the final 8 outs of the game to get his 5th save of the season...which continues to make him #1 in the conference.

He is also the number 5 pitcher in the conference in ERA (2.49 ERA)

With this save, he is only three saves away from his own single saves record at Tusculum that he set last year.

He is also now has 16 career saves at TC, which puts him two saves behind the #2 all time guy at TC and 7 behind the all time saves leader. Both of them did theirs in four years, while John-Austin is finishing year three.

At his current pace, he may break all of them this year!

Here is the single season and career bests at Tusculum up to today.

i still can't believe UMD didn't nab Larranaga. He would have been a heck of a coach for us.

I definitely think I'm going to pick "the U" in my pool to win it all

I know Thai can appreciate this too but,

JMU IS GOING TO THE NCAA TOURNEY.

First time since 1994 we're in the tournament, let that sink in a little

I was in the Pep Band at our last appearance. We could've beaten Florida that night (lost by a whole 2 points). And that was the same year that Florida had an easy run to the Final 4 (every team they played after us we matched up well against so I think JMU could've made some noise that year if not for the bad calls and the poor free throw shooting in the 2nd half of that game)

BUT...

We won tonight!! Beat LIU-Brooklyn 68-55 to notch our first NCAA Tourney victory since 1983.

Next up is Indiana Crying or Very sad

The good news: they're on the upswing.
The bad news: it doesn't matter, and they're playing themselves out of any realistic chance for another young prospect.
The bad but actually good news: the rest of their schedule is BRUTAL. After Phoenix tonight, they are at the Lakers, at Golden State, home vs Memphis, at Oklahoma City, at Orlando, home vs Toronto, home vs Chicago, at Toronto, home vs Indiana, at Boston, at the Knicks, home vs Miami, home vs Philly, at Brooklyn, and at Chicago. Only the two games against the Raptors, and the games with the 76ers and Magic are winnable on paper.
The good but actually bad news: They'll probably steal some of those games that they shouldn't.

seeing that the draft doesn't have an elite player in it, I'm not concerned that the wizards will be picking in the 3-6 range instead of top 3.

1. Porter
2. Bennett
3. Shabazz
4. Zeller
5. Noel l

Update today in m nephew's college game

They were behind going into the 7th inning. After a great offensive inning, they pulled ahead 6-5. When TC (Tusculum College) is ahead after 7 innings, they have won every game. And they haven't given up a run in the 9th inning all year.

Well, that plan continued! Billy "Sandman" Sivyer came in and shut things down for three innings.

Enter the 9th. Up by one. Sivyer walks the first batter.

Enter "Lights Out" (my nephew).

Two groundouts, one flyout.

Done.

Save #6.

Here are the numbers:

- JA has 6 saves which is #1 in the South Atlantic Conference. He is 2 saves away from tying his own single season school record from last year.

- He has 17 career saves. That makes him one save away from becoming the 2nd all time in saves at TC.

- He moves up to #5 nationally in saves. He is 6th all time in SAC history.

As a junior.

And the beat goes on.

P.S. - I'll have to check my brother's records but since his son was put in as a closer in H.S. and through all 3 years of college and all his collegiate summer ball he has 52 saves out of 58 save opportunities.

52 of 58.

Freakish...

Wall seems to be finally getting it!(24 PTs, 16 ast, 6 reb, 3stl) he made Nash or Blake fall guarding him over and over it seemed. Nene was so aggressive with Howard, it's obvious Nene (15 PTs, 5 reb, 2 ast, 1 Stl, 2 blk) wanted it more. It was a great great 18 point come back and win.

Ariza returned to LA to dominate with 25 PTs, 4reb, 4 ast. He defended Wall well and took it to him on the offensive end.

Webster kicked in his usual 13 PTs.

Seraphin was money off the bench with 12 points, 5 reb, 1 ast, 2 blk

We did all this w/o Beal and Okafor tonight. It's clear we have a deep team and a team for the future.

Great win by the wizards last night! Cool

Baseball Update: Well folks...records that I thought be unreachable this year are now in reach. Here's the deal...

First of all, after getting the save the other night, John-Austin (my nephew) comes in again in his most recent game, this time in the next to last inning, one out...man on first and third and up by 4. He strikes out the next hitter and gets a flyout to end the threat.

He then comes in the last inning and gets it done for his 7th save of the year.

Now the numbers...

- John-Austin is first in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) in saves with 7. He most likely has moved into the top three in the country in saves for this year.

- John-Austin is one save away from tying the school single season saves record he set last year.

- John-Austin just moved into second all-time in school history in saves ( 18 ). He is five saves away from tying the school record (23). Wes Hill set that record in 4 years. John-Austin may do it in three.

- He is 5th all time in SAC history after today. He is three away from 4th all time, 5 away from second all time, and 8 away from tying the all time SAC record. Again, all those guys did it in 4 years.

As I said, I didn't think some of these records would have been reachable before the season. But there is still about twenty games left in the regular season, plus the playoffs. At the current rate he is getting saves, none of those records are safe!

And the beat goes on...

Very cool Thai!

Wall had 47 pts, 8 ast, 7 Rebs, 1 Stl, 1 blk and Okafor had 21 pts and 17 reb in a 107-94 win tonight
