Eh, since we're done for the season playing meaningfull football (if you could even call what we did today/yesterday as "footabll") I thought i'd get a draft thread up and going.

Obviously right now we have to wait to see what happens with McNeil, Gaither, Jackson and Dielman to find out what our biggest needs will be. But first and foremost, at this point, Clary and LaBoy may be the worst starters in the league, reguardless of position... We desperately need a strongside pass rusher, and we need a decent RT. We could end up having McNeil and Gaither as our starting OT's (with McNeil possibly moving to RT if he is in fact still playing football next year), which would take care of that need.

For guys to watch, here's my list for our areas of need.

OLB: (#1 pass rusher, as a strongside guy, eliminating guys like Ingram, Upshaw and Irvin, first two not #1 pass rushers, latter being not a strongside guy)
Nick Perry
Brandon Jenkins
Jonathan Massaquoi
Cam Johnson
Andre Branch
Frank Alexander
(Round 4 and beyond sleepers)
Shea McClellain
Jacquies Smith
Adewale Ojomo
Oliver Vernon
Kyle Wilber
Jack Crawford

RT/OG:
Riley Reiff
David Decastro
Jonathan Martin
Kelechi Osemele
Brandon Washington (maybe my favorite OG in the draft)
Mike Adams
Markus Zuescevics (LBC credit) (From here on down, are 4th round and on guys)
James Brown
Matt Reynolds
Jermarcus "Yoshi" Hardrick

Beyond that, Backup/eventuall replacement TE, SS and WR (Could move up to that top tier depending on VJ) are needs but on a smaller scale. I'll post some prospects when i'm bored some other time...lol

We also need at least 1 new starter in the secondary, and maybe 2 or 3(Weddle is the only starting caliber player in the secondary as of today- Gregory sucks, Jammer is done at CB, and Cason is an enigma). Oh, and we also need depth at ILB(I'm tired of Spikes and Diggs playing on passing downs) and a better backup RB(Tolbert sucks).

1. Dre Kirkpatrick, DB, Alabama
2. Shea McClellin, OLB, Boise St
3. Levy Adcock, RT, Oklahoma St
4. Brandon Washington, OG, Miami
5. Joe Adams, WR, Arkansas
6. Janzen Jackson, S, McNeese St.
7. DeAngelo Peterson, TE, LSU

Brandon Washington will not last anywhere after the 2nd round. Joe Adams is probably a 3rd or 4th round pick. I want NO part in Janzen Jackson, dude is an absolute nutcase.

And Levy Adcock is the second coming of Pat McQuestian....But not for that reason, i'm not a big fan.

lol

And i want a TE way earlier than that.

Right now here's how my ideal mock would go...

1st: Nick Perry OLB, USC
2nd: Brandon Washington RT/OG, Miami
3rd: Coby Fleener TE, Stanford
4th: Joe Adams WR, Arkansas
5th: Markus Zuescevics OT, Iowa
6th: DaJohn Harris DE/NT (swing player), USC
7th: Eddie Pleasant SS, Oregon

What do you think?

6. Harrison Smith
7. BDTA (not good with late round guys)

Picking 16th overall

Round 1: Nick Perry, OLB, USC (Very good pass rusher with run stuffing ability as well. Not sure how much of a leader he is though, which is something we do need. Hopefully either Donald Butler or Jonas Mouton steps up at some point. Perry should start at ROLB no problem for us. Side note, we could pull a New England and trade down like 5 slots for this guy. Teams could be desperate for Floyd, Dennard, etc.)

Round 2: Kelechi Osemele, LG/RG/RT, Iowa State (Baller... he's starting at left tackle right now but he's best fit as a guard, left side for us. Could play at RG or RT though as well. Here is Dielman's replacement. Did Schiling get cut?)

Round 3: Ryan Broyles, WR, Oklahoma (Weapon. This is what we've needed for so long. Fast slot receiver that tears zone coverages apart. Excels over the middle, great hands, hands catcher, elusive, quality punt returner. Vincent, Floyd/Brown, and Broyles is a respectable receiving corps. Throw Antonio Gates in there along with a potent running game, 29 year old elite quarterback, and all you need is 5+ offensive lineman that can atleast see. We don't really have this right now but we should be replacing Clary so we're set)

Round 4: Isaiah Pead, 3DRB, Cincinatti (Weapon. 200lb speedy running back that plays like a power back. Good receiver and very good blocking ability. Everything we're looking for)

Round 5: Chris Marve, ILB, Vanderbilt (Love this guy. He has the speed, the instincts, and is very good in coverage and since Na'il Diggs is not good at all and Spikes isn't the answer in coverage this guy is perfect. Remember when I mentioned trading down? This guy could go a little earlier than this pick but too late to draft in the 4th so trading down would help)

Round 6: A nose tackle

Round 7: Daron Rose, RT, North Alabama (Steallll. Started at LT for FL State as a sophomore but got kicked out of school for cheating so now he's at North Alabama, of course. He'd likely backup McNeill or someone that we traded McNeill for at RT)

Free Agents:

Terrell Thomas CB (Cason is nothing more than trash and Jammer is 33. Since next year is either his last year, or his last year at corner, we need help. Lots. I'm a huge supporter of Gilchrist but he isn't ready for a full time #2 job. Jammer, Thomas on a 4 year deal, and Cason and Gilchrist competing at nickel should be pretty solid. Maybe we'll cut Cason! That would be a treat)

John Carlson TE (Very good compliment to Gates and we can take a TE early next year)

Tom Zbikowski SS (For cheap)

Manny Lawson ROLB (to backup Perry for cheap or we'll just get someone else to do it)

A decent NT to compete with Cam Thomas

QB: Rivers, Volek?
RB: Mathews, Tolbert, Pead
FB: Hester
WR: Jackson, Floyd/Brown, Broyles, etc.
TE: Gates, Carlson, Sperry
LT: KC's Xmas Gift, Schiling I think
LG: Osemele, Green
C: Hardwick, ?
RG: Vasquez, Green
RT: McNeill?, ?

LE: Liuget/Castillo
NT: Garay, Thomas, ?, 6th rounder
RE: Martin, Harris
LOLB: Philips, Barnes, E. Brown
ILB: Spikes, Marve, Gachkar
ILB: Butler, Mouton
ROLB: Perry, Lawson, Bird
CB: Jammer, Thomas, Gilchrist, Cason, Wright, etc
FS: Weddle, Stuckey
SS: Zbikowski, Gregory/Oliver

KR/PR: Broyles, Gilchrist

I would do all of this if I was GM. And we'd have Pagano or Cowher. Surprised Laughing

Really not infatuated with Oseleme. He's a big road grader, ok, but he doesn't strike me as someone who will be good in pass protection.

And Ryan Broyles is not fast. He's Vincent Brown.

I'm sure Frank Alexander said the same about Osemele. He's clearly better in the run game, but he's not bad in the passing game either. Ose>Zeitler>>>>Washington IMO.

And LOL at vincent brown comparison.

This is Broyles:

This is Brown:
Combine 40 Time: 4.66.

And this is Brooks Reed, who is 6'3 263:
Combine 40 Time: 4.66.

He's not as slow as V Brown (who plays WAY faster than him), but he's a mid 4.5 guy, solid but not very good for a small WR like him. He's not a fast guy and that knee injury will only hurt his speed, though his best asset was always the ability to just find some space and sit, elite at reading coverages. Sort of a Marvin Harrison factor with the way he does that. We need that explosive playmaking threat if we get a WR. A guy like Joe Adams, Jairus Wright, or AJ Jenkins would be good in that type of role.

I'd say Broyles runs 4.47 at the very worst. Could be around 4.43.

Adams's route running is really raw whereas Broyles can tear up defenses with his route running which is exactly what we need from a slot guy and Adams is pretty scrawny at 5'11 180 (according to his school... so probably realistically DeSean size)

I am a fan of Jairus Wright. Probably about the same size as Adams, but lots faster and better route running. Projected round?

I like Jenkins but he should go before our pick in the third round. I'd take him over Broyles though.

No Broyles is a mid 4.5 guy.

We have a slot guy, Brown. We need a speedy threat. Broyles is not the answer.

Pointless argument. Watch the video. He's fast.

And Brown is too slow and not good enough after the catch to be a slot receiver and all of his best plays this year happened with him on the outside.
Not slot- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE0p2yEfpec
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9txh2jwgrg&feature=related

Slot- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iSbnYyIPoM&feature=related

We should resign VJ, Brown should step up in Floyd's spot same way he did when Floyd was injured, and someone fast with reliable hands and good route running should come in at slot. Adams has putrid route running.

Round 3: AJ Jenkins, WR, Illinois
Round 4: Matt Reynolds, OT, BYU

I'm not sure a Guard is a big enough need to grab in the middle of the first. Green is playing well, Shilling showed some good stuff, and Dielman will hopefully be alright. Unless DeCastro is projected to ply OT, it seems like a bad pick.
