Twas the Game Before Christmas....

Twas the game before Christmas, and all through the league
Half the teams were striving to making it big
The playoffs were close, that much they did know
But most didn’t know just where they would go.

The Steelers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of SEVEN danced in their heads.
But there were games to be played before that could be
And what place they would finish was still “wait and see”.

Ben was beat up with a bad ankle and finger,
But the soldier marched on despite the pain that would linger.
And despite a bad loss in the Monday Night fight,
His team also marched on, and will never lose sight.

The Steelers were primed to win a blowout this game,
But the Colts, Chiefs and Jags would not say the same,
You see, the Steelers had struggled against these lowly teams,
Casting a cloud of doubt over their Superbowl dreams.

But despite their shortcominings, the Steelers could see that night,
The playoffs were a new season, a chance to make right.
Only the Rams on Saturday and the Browns remained,
And if they lost to either, I might go insane.

The Steelers looked destined to be a wildcard team,
With the first playoff game in Denver it seemed,
But they didn’t make excuses as Tomlin would teach,
“The standard is the standard” the man often preached.

So despite all adversity, the Steelers were alive,
And kept in their minds thoughts of 2005.
For that year they had to win the SB, all on the road,
And just that they did; the Fifth Lombardi bestowed.

As for the Rams, and the keys to this game,
Its really quite simple, and more of the same.
Limit the turnovers, fouls and mistakes,
Be smart with the ball, whatever it takes,

On defense. shut down Jackson, their only great player,
Without him their offense doesn’t have a prayer,
When Steelers have the ball, get the running game going,
Get Ben in to rhythm, to Wallace and Brown he’ll be throwing

The OLine needs to win at the point of attack,
And not end up on the flats of their back,
The Rams will attack Ben, and Starks will draw Long.
And Kemo will get distracted by the “Meow Mix” song.

Harrison should return, to unleash his wrath,
And someone might die if they get in his path,
LeBeau needs to work out the kinks to the D,
Or there will be no seventh Lombardi under the tree.

So while things look grim Steeler fans, just keep in mind,
This team has done it before, its not the first time,
This team will push forward, and continue to fight,
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!!!

I agree with the last paragraph...so many fans are down about this loss, and there wasn't much positive to gather. We couldn't overcome our injuries and too many mistakes in all three phases. If the 5 seed is truly our destiny, it's time to rest some starters (Ben, Pouncey, Woodley) and try to get them as close to 100% as possible for the wild card round. With any luck we'll draw Denver and then a trip to Foxboro. Not ideal but if we have everyone healthy by then it could definitely be worse!
