As a Dolphins fan with a head coaching vacancy, and a closet Ravens fan, Pagano is on my personal shortlist for our vacancy. What can you guys tell me about his credentials? Has he been interviewed for jobs in the past? What are his relationships with fellow coaches and players like?

Take it from T-Sizzle himself - Chuck Pagano is a terrible, awful, no-good, very bad coach. No way you want him. Nope. Bad move. Wink

But realistically, he would make a heck of a HC, IMO. Not sure of his overall credentials, but he's a fiery guy, great rapport with players, and he loves to be aggressive. I saw a quote just today or yesterday that said something like Pagano's team may make some mistakes, and that's ok.. but there won't be any bullets left in his six shooter when it's all said and done. Bottom line -- he's the kind of coach who is going to force a team to beat his team by being aggressive and taking chances rather than being the kind of coach who doesn't want to lose.

I was already prepared that we'd lose him after next season, not ready to lose him just after 1.

tell me about it. We will never have a defensive coordinator for more than two years. I hope that hes got at least one more year on this team. Eventually theres gotta be someone thats content with a coordinator job.

Here, I'll help.

Here's the coaches that are a product of the Ray Lewis tree.

Mike Smith
Jack Del Rio
Rex Ryan
Mike Nolan
Mike Singletary
Marvin Lewis

Now, 3 of those guys are not HCs anymore, Lewis has been on the annual hot seat more than most other HCs in the league, Mike Smith has won a whopping 0 playoff games, and Rex Ryan is Rex Ryan.

So, moral of the story?

If you want a successful coach, let us keep our coordinators Smile

I know he's been a DC twice different times in his career (at UNC in 2007 and now here). I know the players love him and love that he is aggressive and believes in his players.

I dont think he has ever interviewed as a HC before (he has oscillated between coaching DBs and being a DC)

Hopefully this means that he's content being a coordinator

I think he fits well as a DC with us, but he would hit rock bottom everwhere else, for sure Smile

Considering this is his first big job as coordinator, I would think he would stay 1 or 2 more years to build up his reputation. By then he should probably have to move to make room for Ed Reed and Ray Lewis as our new coaches.

Speaking of moving due to Reed and Ray Lewis, the more I think about it, the less likely I think it is that Pagano will move on if these guys are still searching for a championship ring and the Ravens have a legitimate chance.

The players sort of felt shafted by Rex when he abandoned "the mission" and Pagano doesn't strike me as the type that is AS ambitious as Rex. I think he wants to be successful as a coach, but as long as Ray/Reed are here, I think he realizes he'll get his chance as a HC as long as he does his job.

I think he'll stay at least until the end of next season. If we win a Championship this year, then that's the only way I could see him leaving. Assuming we win a championship would probably mean Pagano's defense was able to contain either the Packers or Saints potent offenses on the big stage, Ray Lewis and Ed Reed both probably retire, and it would be safer for Pagano to move on with that kind of instability coming into play.

But if we don't win it this year, I think he waits at least another year or two before he moves on.

Not having Ed Reed and Ray Lewis could expose Pagano, but thats just a thought there might not be anything to. We actually don't know Reeds impact this year, as quarterbacks either seem to throw away from him, or that he has just lost a step. (+ he contributes more to plays near LoS this year).

To me, Pagano is in the perfect situation right now, and I can't see why he would move on to a HC job at some desperate franchise.

I didn't think about these things, personally.

Pagano could very well want a ring just as badly as his players. Knowing that we're right on the brink, he could definitely stay as a DC trying to get that ring for himself and for us. Unlike players, as a DC, if you're good, you're typically not going to lose your chance to be a HC in just a year or two barring a huge meltdown, which coaching the Ravens defense is just about as likely as being struck by lightning.

Now that I think about it, it's very possible he stays another year or two provided we don't win it this year. Though, if we win this year, I'd think he'd move on since Ray/Ed would both probably call it a career as well.
