It was discussed in the Pittsburgh forum, but how about Joey Porter (great for your change to the 3-4 defense) for the 'boys 2nd pick in the 1st (#20 I believe). That would be at least two Steelers as I believe Bell will end up there also. What do you all think?

Yeah, Porter for #20 wouldn't be a good trade at all given his age and contract. He's on the downside of his career, so why deal a first round pick for him when the Boys could grab a LB in the draft that will be cheaper and has some upside?

Guys, Porter is in the prime of his career...

Isn't the man 27 years old? He's a very good player. I'd give up the 2nd rounder.

Porter is indeed 27 years old. It seems like he's been around for a long time.

Porter would be great in DAL, but IMO Bell will go to NE...not being a homer or anything...It's just that every year BB brings in a highpriced vet and with Bruschi having a stroke and Phifer and Johnson possibly retiring, Bell would be a nice fit in NE right now...

To summarize all of that, Porter would be a good fit, but how about a second and a fourth for him?

He's a Parcells linebacker. Big, physical, and makes plenty of plays.

However, where did it come up that he has a possibility of being traded?

Porter has a big contract, doesn't he?

Also, the Boys have quite a few OLBs already on the roster, and a couple should excel in the 3-4 (i.e., James and Thornton). Also, the Boys could draft a younger, cheaper guy in the draft. As such, if I was Parcells and JJ, I would trade a pick for Porter.

You seemed to contradict yourself -- think you meant wouldn't trade a pick for Porter.

If we switched to 3-4 and he was actually on the block, however, I'd go for a 2nd. His contract is lofty, but he's a playmaker. He's more consistant than 1-season-wonder Farrior and probably the most talented player on the Steeler's #1(?) defense, save maybe Polamalu. He's pretty good.

If we stay 4-3, which I personally hope with all my heart, I don't know how good of a fit he'd be. I believe he's always played 3-4 in the NFL.

Just looking at his stats(avg 8sacks/yr and total 13 forced fumbles and 6 ints for the last 5 years) along with his age of 27, I'd definately give #42 for him. I havent seen him play too much so tell me what his downside is. (contract maybe?).

Thornton and James excel ? What have you seen from either one that you would assume they would not just be productive but "Excel" in a 3-4 ? All Ive seen in James is a guy who was given every oppurtunity to take the starting job from Coakley and couldn't and I don't recall Thorton doing ANYTHING special last year. Forget potential or lack thereof, give me PROVEN guys.

Interesting comments men, just to make it clear, unless there is some discussions we are all not privy to, there has been absolutely ZERO mention of this possible trade, but if you would like to see it happen or something in this realm call your local sports talk shows, or respond in some other public media outlet, sometimes public opinion can drive FO decisions. I love Porter, but we have others and I would like to get something for him while he still has some value. Thanks for the interest, this is a real active board and you guys seem knowledgeable.

Kalen Thornton was a pass rusher, plain and simple, and he made the plays when he got the oppt.
