We drafted a guy I played HS ball with, Dixon Llorens. He won reliever of the year at Miami Dade JUCO. He was going to South Carolina had he not been picked. I expect him to move through the system pretty quickly, he has a quirky motion, with a side arm slot. 93-94 MPH fastball, sweeping breaking ball and a developing change up. He is a fiery competitor.

I've definitely softened up on the idea of moving Shelby Miller from Memphis to the bullpen, but not until at least July so as to not expose him to Super Two status. Getting his feet wet, and working on spotting his pitches might actually do him more good than bad.

Why didn't they just walk Butler? He's arguably their best power hitter, and Motte's best pitch is his fastball.

I wish they were bad enough to either contend for a higher draft pick, or good enough to where they had a really good chance of going to the playoffs. Right now, the team is in no man's land.

Good and bad news today on the injury front...

Jon Jay (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday at Triple-A Memphis. Jay was able to take batting practice and run the bases over the weekend, and has been cleared to begin appearing in minor league games. The 27-year-old center fielder was placed on the disabled list in mid-May with a shoulder sprain. He was batting .343/.395/.438 in 27 games before the sudden injury, and should be back in the Cards' starting lineup before the end of June.

Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Matt Holliday is dealing with a "hip flexor condition." I'd sit Holliday till at least Saturday. I hate our training staff, FO how they down play injuries at the beginning then they turn out to be serious.

Here's a good read on how the organization is wanting Shelby to pitch this year, which will help out a lot in the long run, IMO.

Here is the article.

Nice to see Skip and Jay coming back soon. Sucks about Holliday though bc he was getting hot. We need to get our guys back bc when healthy, we're 1 of the best teams in baseball, when we're banged up like this, we 're average to below average.

The Batavia Muckdogs (Short Season) start their season in about an hour. Notable players on the roster include LHP Daniel Bibona, 3B Patrick Wisdom, LHP Tim Cooney, and LHP Ben O'Shea. It's where a lot of the college players end up going after their college career has ended.

The Johnson City Cardinals (Advanced Rookie) starts tomorrow. Notable players on their roster are 3B Carson Kelly, C.J. McElroy, C Steve Bean, OF Lance Jeffries, 1B Jeremy Schaffer. Probably the farm team I'll keep the closest eye on. Too bad Charlie Tilson got hurt, or he'd likely be here as well.
