The "Make A Movie" Draft - V
Draft Thread

It's that time again! Time for the biggest event in the Entertainment Forum (a prestigious title, I know). I'm sure most of you reading this already understand the basics, but JUST IN CASE, here's what this is about.

The object here is for each participant to draft both a director and all of the actors to appear in a single fictional future film. The idea and story behind your film is all up to you, as you will be giving us the basics behind the story. Obviously the first part of this process is the draft itself. You will be drafting in a typical snake style format across eight rounds. In the final two rounds, you will be making two selections per pick. After the draft is over, you will PM me your write-up, do not post it in the discussion thread like we have done in previous drafts, although you may still give us small details there. Write-ups are pretty flexible. Depending on how creative you want to be, writeups can be as long or short as you want them to be. The only things that are required in a write-up are

1. A title
2. A list of characters, short descriptions, and the actor playing them
3. A One paragraph description of the movie
4. (Optional): A full plot description, for those of you really in the mood to bring your movie to light.

Here are the changes from previous drafts, and they are substantial.

1. We have done away with the "Director Round". You now have the free ability to draft the director for your film in any round in the draft.

2. We have doubled the number of participants. This means a larger variety of directors and actors will be being selected, so make sure when you are planning out your potential picks that you have a backup plan for both your director and your cast!

3. The On The Clock time limit has been reduced from 24 hours to 8 hours in order to speed up the draft, especially with the new participants. Time from 1am to 7am does not count against the clock.

4. TRADES. That's right. You are now allowed to trade both your draft picks, and your selections, whether that be so you can pick up some extra picks, or trade up to get someone you think won't fall to you. However, there are some ground rules. Read all of these.

- The steps for setting up a trade are as follows. Find another member of the draft who would like to make a trade with you, either negotiate in the discussion thread or through PMs. Once you have made an agreement, both of you must send me a PM giving me the details of the trade. Once that is done, I will make the announcement, and make it final.

- You cannot make trades WHILE you are on the clock if the trade involves the pick you are on the clock for. I don't want you looking to trade down and chatting up people while you are on the clock and slowing the draft down. To prevent this, trading picks must be done before that pick comes up in the draft.

- Obviously, if you trade your director, it must be in return for another director. You need one. You can however have any number of actors that you would like, depending on what kind of film you want to make. That's the reason this whole system is in place.

ALSO: if, during the draft, you see that your pick is coming up soon, and you know that you won't be around for a while, PM ME YOUR PICK AND I WILL PUT IN YOUR PICK FOR YOU WHILE YOU ARE GONE. If my pick comes before yours in this situation, and you don't trust me not to scoop the person from you, then PM someone else to put it in for you. This will help the draft move along smoothly so we don't get stuck on your pick for hours while you are away.

Now that that's settled, let's begin the signups. This time around, we will be taking 20 participants. Several of you have already reserved your place by making it clear in the previous post-draft thread, but there are still plenty of spots available. Post in here to sign up.

The Luckiest Man in the World
Directed by Sam Mendes - A GJ Production

Greg_Jennings wrote:
The Luckiest Man in the World Character List:

Sam Rockwell as Bill Kendall: a man who has won 16 million dollars in the Pennsylvania lottery. The story centers around him as his money is squandered away, as he loses all the people who once loved him or called him a friend, and as he drives himself deeper and deeper into the hole of unhappiness.

Michael Shannon as Marcus Kendall: he has a rocky relationship with his brother to say the least, and barely ever speaks to him anymore. Marcus holds a deep amount of spite for his brother, because he feels like Bill was the least of them to deserve the luck he was given. Driven by justified jealousy and spite, Marcus eventually hires a hitman to kill Bill and his wife.

Josh Brolin as Frank Powers: Bill's old friend and now, his attorney. Frank is a decent lawyer, and a funny guy, and one of the few friends that Bill has left after his escapades.Frank eventually becomes overwhelmed by the amount of work that goes into being a man like Bill's attorney.

Casey Affleck as Luke Kendall: Bill and Marcus' youngest brother. Luke takes advantage of his brother Bill's new lifestyle, and in some ways, drives him even deeper down the path to losing it in pursuit of his own selfish endeavor. Unlike Bill, however, Luke still somewhat keeps in touch with Marcus, who has almost drifted away from the family all together.

Naomi Watts as Cate Jacobs-Kendall: Bill's wife (eventually ex-wife). She puts up with Bill's delusions of grandeur for a while, but eventually comes to realize how she is taking advantage of her luxurious lifestyle, and leave Bill. She cannot stand what he has become, but still holds onto feelings for him.

Mary-Louise Parker as Kristen: One of Bill's old affairs, and his former landlord. She is a charming, but vindictive woman. Bill was cheating on his wife with Kristen around the time that he first won the lottery. While staying in a motel room with her, with, at the time, barely any money to his name, Bill gives her $40 from his pawned wedding ring to go and buy a bunch of lottery tickets for him, one of which is the winning one. Many years later, Kristen would sue for a third of Bill's fortune, claiming that they had agreed to split the winnings.

Chris Cooper as Michael Jacobs: Cate's father. Michael plays a small role, coming into focus when Cate leaves Bill, and Bill starts following her around. Michael was never a huge fan of Bill, as you can imagine.

Mickey Rourke as "Randy": The Hitman plays a small role when he is hired by Marcus to kill Bill and his wife. The Hitman blends into a high profile party hosted by Bill, and makes his move there, making small talk until the time is right to strike.

Bryan Cranston as Jeff Lundy: Bill's head of security after Bill becomes paranoid after the attempted murder. Having lost all of his friends, Bill looks to Jeff for conversation, but constantly gets ignored.

David Cross as Walter: The Debt Collecter plays a cameo role when he visits the home of the, now virtually broke Bill after he is drained of his fortune. On his last straw, Bill freaks out and fires his shotgun at the front door, barely missing the collector. The collector runs away from the home and reports the incident to the police.

As you can tell, the story will span over many years of Bill's life. The movie will start part way through Bill receiving his fortune, and will deliver how he got there through several flashbacks.

Looking forward to this. The increased number of participants should be a real good wrinkle to throw into the draft.

I really don't have a clue on that many actors. I'll be in for now unless somebody wants my spot.

Skimming through IMDb can help you out a lot. Look up some movies you've watched, see actors you liked, and keep them in mind. It's really not going to be as hard as it sounds, even by the end of this I guarantee some big names will still be on the board.

but if you aren't feeling this, then let me know

Let's do this! So when can we announce our directors? After all the spots are filled? Will it be in a first-come, first-served style?
