Nashville matches, they aren't in nashville in 2 years.
Or we work out a trade. |
They have some young, blue-chip defensive prospects and a great scouting department.
Don't think Nashville would end moving if they decline. Obviously in re-build mode though, and those picks would certainly help. | I said if they match. They will be bankrupt in a year. The 1st year money ='s there ticket revenue the past year |
My bad. |
Let's say miracles happen and Pronger gets healthy miraculously...
Pronger-Timonen
Weber-Mez
Coburn-Grossman
Schenn

If we sign Weber, do we still have room for another winger/center next offseason. _________________

Next offseason we have Hartnell's 4.2 off the books, Timonen's 6.3 off the books, Jody Shelley's 1.1 off the books (all of this is not counting Pronger on LTIR). I think we'll have room for a winger.
That said next year will be VERY important for the Flyers internally with our own players, offensively that is:
- Hartnell is a FA, do we resign him, and what will he cost?
- Simmonds, Wellwood, and Rinaldo are RFAs, do we resign them, how much do they cost?
- Giroux, Schenn and Couts are all restriced FAs the following season, who gets the extensions early and who do we risk in RFA?
The positive: our Goalie and defense is set for at least 3 years. Timonen is widely expected to retire after this contract (pretty sure he has been quoted saying that) and Mez is the next available FA in our top 6 and he is an FA in the 2014 offseason. _________________

So you think we can resign Hartnell, Simmonds, Wellwood as well as give Giroux, Schenn and Couts extensions all for the 11.1 mil coming off the books? Even if we include Prongers LTIR money and bump that figure up to 16 mil I don't think we have enough to get all of them resigned. You also have to consider that in the next CBA the salary cap is expected to go down as well. It will definitely be a big offseason for the Flyers to keep their offensive core intact. _________________

Fedotrenko, Lilja, Timomen, Hartnell & Shelley are All coming off and I Think they should consider trading Mez because of his cap hit. _________________

I'm expecting Mez to be the centerpiece of a trade for Weber. The Flyers hold all the leverage in any trade situation because the Predators can't really afford to pay one employee more than they made in ticket revenue in one calender year. _________________

Looks like Nashville matched the offer. Not exactly sure how Hockey trades/restricted FA go; is there any repercussions to this in our favor? Could we still trade for him? Anyone else on the radar that's as good as Weber? _________________

No to all questions.
The only positive is we don't have to worry about Weber signing with a rival for the next 12 years. _________________

So we still have cap space, wonder what Homer is gonna do. Please don't panic, Paul and do something stupid. _________________

Nashville matches, they aren't in nashville in 2 years.
Or we work out a trade. |
I wish I had seen this earlier. Nashville has zero financial problems and the ownership group is committed to keeping the team in Nashville. They were in the race monetarily to sign Suter and Parise who chose the Wild because of location, not money.
With the Weber signing the Predators are still a few thousand below the cap floor and budgeted to spend to the cap.
You should have a look at who is part of the Nashville ownership group before suggesting they might move. _________________

Having matched the offer sheet Nashville can't trade Weber for a year.
Even then a trade is unlikely. They had been working on a trade but didn't offer Nashville the quality of player they required for Weber. Because Holmgren couldn't get Weber without giving up a core player he sprang an offer sheet that was structured in a way that he didn't believe Nashville would match.
It was a good if misguided attempt. Everyone that follows the Nashville ownership group and is aware of how deep their pockets are and the commitment to keep the team in Nashville knew this would be matched. _________________
