Totally didn't forget about today...
Iced Earth
Iced Earth is a Thrash/Power Metal band led by Jon Schaffer. They have had the most lineup changes I've ever heard of thanks to him. Iced Earth should almost trademark galloping in metal. If you thought The Trooper had real gallops, you should hide before listening to Iced Earth. Their songs typically have incredibly fast gallops involving much palm muting and fast riffing. Another classic Iced Earth thing is harmonies both on guitar and vocals. I think they have at least one of those in every one of their songs.
Lyrically, they speak mostly of religion and doom. Hence titles like The Blessed and the Damned. But they also discuss monsters, patriotism, love and comic book characters. The Horror Show was based on various classic monsters/horror stories like Dracula and Frankenstein. Another album was based on the comic Spawn. They also have an album of only covers paying tribute to their influences.
My favorite Iced Earth tracks are:
Transylvania (Iron Maiden Cover)
Dracula
Stormrider
The Hunter
The Path I Choose
Black Sabbath (Cover of guess who) _________________

Sorry this is late guys. I'm gonna have to whip this out fast so it won't be in the same format as my other stuff. Time to go old school with
Peter Gabriel
So I figure this guy is fairly well known, but the honorable and intelligent stallyns pointed out to me that I never really checked. Peter Gabriel started off as the lead singer of Genesis(which, as most of you probably know, was also the band Phil Collins emerged from). Gabriel decided to pave his own way and then went on to have an amazing solo career.
Albums:(in order of release)
Peter Gabriel
Peter Gabriel
Peter Gabriel
Peter Gabriel(creativity at its finest )
So(This is a top 5 album for me, every single song is just fantastic from beginning to end. If you listen to this and somehow dislike it, you have lost your right to have ears)
Passion(the soundtrack of Martin Scorsese's The Last Temptation Of Christ)
Us
Up
Scratch My Back
As far as what to listen to. Start with the songs on So, just listen to all of them, you won't regret it. Then listen to his oldest stuff first.
Favorite Songs:(you'll notice they are dominated by a certain album)
Red Rain
In Your Eyes
Biko
Sledgehammer
Solsbury Hill
Come Talk To Me
Mercy Street
Big Time
Let me know what you guys think. Sorry again for the short writeup. _________________

First off, sorry for not being around and doing my artists the past few times I've been up. I got caught up just enough with school at the end of the semester to forget about this, and last week I got a PM to do it, but it was on Friday and I was in the process of getting my mafia game up and running (shameless plug here: go sign up for the new mafia game in TAST if you're interested), and forgot about it by the time I was free. I should be available to do this now though. I've got a few great artists planned out. Be excited.
On the last artist posted.. I've always liked what I've heard from Peter Gabriel, and I have the entire Genesis discography, but I've never taken the time to get into his solo work beyond Sledge Hammer and the song below.
Every time I hear this song, I think of that scene in Say Anything...

Yes, I'm totally a loser that loved that movie.
I'll definitely check out these other songs though Sandy. _________________

On an unrelated note, typing You Suck into Google with Safe Search off yielded results that I should have expected but did not. _________________

Emancipator is one of if not the best musician I have ever heard. Simply put Soon It Will Be Cold Enough was the best produced album I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. Safe in the Steep Cliffs was a pretty darn good album too, really hard to live up to the epicness of first album though. Good picks on the Selected Songs too, all of those are fantastic. _________________

Rainy Day Music
| Packman Luke's thoughts wrote: | | Growing up in a suburb in Wisconsin, I was naturally exposed to country music at a young age. Somewhere inside of me I'll always have a soft spot for the genre, so maybe that's why I'm so drawn to the alt-country sound of the Jayhawks. Then again, some of my favorite songs of theirs are less country more alt, which to me is indicative of their talent as a band. They don't need to rely on the niche of their genre to produce great music, they do it through great vocals and solid strong writing that has a real emotional appear. |
| Jetsqb101's thoughts wrote: | | I got to know the Jayhawks after hearing Blue and Save It For A Rainy Day multiple times and really enjoying them. Rainy Day Music is a terrific album with tons of quality songs that are really pleasant to listen to and really easy to listen to. I've been sick all week and typing this writeup is actually exhausting me, so I'm going to stop typing now. |

I don't have much time today so imma do a young band with only one studio album...
Introducing... Japandroids
Genres: Pop-punk, Lo-fi, Indie
Japandroids are a two-piece from Vancouver. Their sound is high energy, lo-fi and brilliantly uplifting; they're a great summer band. They remind a bit of DFA1979 in that they're an energetic two-piece with songs primarily about girls, but they're much more carefree and upbeat, and they use guitar instead of bass.
There aren't many additional layers of complexity with Japandroids' music. Another common theme is the perceived loss of youth felt by people in their 20s, something I can identify a lot with. Other than that it's just incendiary pop-punk music that never fails to pick me up. I haven't seen them live yet but apparently they're amazing.
Albums:
- Post-Nothing (2009): Their debut album; a 35 minute blast of brilliantly loud fuzz-pop songs. Recommended.
- No Singles (2010): Combines 2 EPs; I don't own this one yet so I can't comment extensively but 'Darkness on the Edge of Gastown' is great.
They also have a few 7-inch only singles such as 'Younger Us' and 'Art Czars'. These are well worth checking out.
Recommended Japandroids songs:
1. Younger Us
2. Wet Hair
3. Young Hearts Spark Fire
4. Darkness On The Edge Of Gastown
5. Art Czars
6. Heart Sweats _________________
