Picks

1-19= Brandon Thompson DT Clemson

Thompson brings a much needed run stuffer to my defensive line. With him and Bunkley it will free up my linebackers to make plays. Thompson will play UT but play NT on pass downs while he collapses the pocket. A great pickup for a young D-line.

2-49= Whitney Mercilus DE Illinois

The top sack man in college football, has a motor that never stops, but he is also a great run defender. I needed someone who could get pressure like Doom but could stop the run more effectively, and Mercilus is that guy, a great pick up at 49.

3-89= Dwayne Allen TE Clemson

The top tight end in the draft at pick 89, is quite a steal. Especially when the player is as well rounded as Allen. He will help in the run game tremendously but also be a safety net for Tebow. Combined with Julius Thomas the Broncos could bolster a pair of TE's similar to the Patriots, if they reach their potential.

3-90= Zebrie Sanders OT FSU

Sanders will be a late 1st/early second rounder come April. Sanders has the athletic ability to pass protect but also bring a force run blocking. Getting Sanders this late who projects as a starter was a great pickup.

4- 108= LaMichael James RB Oregon

James will play a lot on the slot for Denver, and as a Receiver coach myself I have seen in him the ability to play that role. He will also be Tebows pitch man on option plays. James brings a huge playmaker and instant explosion to this offense, and will also play RB. Combined with Tate and McGahee the RB trio is one to be reckoned with.

4-122= Desmond Trufant CB Washington

I needed a corner and Trufant was my highest rated player available. This pick is based off of potential, and Trufant will man the fourth corner position while he develops into a starter eventually taking over for Dunta Robinson.

Trades

Pick 19 to the Texans for DeMeco Ryans and Ben Tate

LB DJ Williams to the Bengals for DE Carlos Dunlap

RB Knowshon Moreno to the Panthers for LB Thomas Davis

CB Andre Goodman and OT Ryan Clady to the Falcons for CB Dunta Robinson and OLB Sean Weatherspoon

pick 130 to the Giants for LT David Diehl

*-2012 Free Agent

**- 2012 Restricted Free Agent

Bold on the block.

Underline will not trade.

Everyone else will listen to offers.

Additions:

Ben Tate RB- I needed a feature back to pair with McGahee. Tate will give Denver a great young runner to help build around with Tebow, with the veteran McGahee giving a hard nosed presence as well.

DeMeco Ryans ILB- I needed a productive player inside who can make a difference and Ryans has the experience to do so. He has dropped off some in production being in a 3-4 but going back to the 4-3 should help bring him back, plus playing opposite Von Miller should allow Ryans to make more plays.

Carlos Dunlap DE- Dunlap has big time potential and will slide over to RE to make a big time player rushing opposite Miller. With Dunlap and Ayers on the ends I have two big players and Ayers can move inside to the UT position on passing downs and Miller will line up at RE and Dunlap at LE. Scary Pass rush.

Thomas Davis OLB- Davis will back up Woodyard, and provide a veteran presence. Coming off of an ACL Injury Davis will take his time to come back healthy, but he is an amazing talent when healthy.

Brandon Browner CB- Gives me a starting corner I desperately needed, has the skills to be a good player, and will team with Champ to make plays.

Alan Branch DT- Give mes depth and a rotaional run stuffer on the D-line.

Sean Weatherspoon OLB- I had recently resigned Wesley Woodyard but I traded for Weatherspoon. Spoon makes my LBer corps complete with Miller Spoon and Ryans I feel that my LBer corps is stacked with great backups in Woodyard, Davis and Irving.

Dunta Robinson CB- A starting caliber CB to pair with Browner and Chris Harris.

Phillip Merling UT- Merling provides a push from the inside on passing downs and can also be a run stuffing end.

David Diehl OT/OG- Diehl provides experience for the O-line and can play Tackle or Guard. With the addition of Zebrie Sanders, Diehl may play LG if Sanders starts at LT.

Scott Wells C- Replaced the inconsistent Walton with a savy Vet who can be a mainstay while someone else is groomed.

Chris Kelsay DE- Brings experience and depth to the defensive end position.

Losses

1st Round pick- Filled two needs with this one pick, self explanatory.

DJ Williams- I have a backup in Woodyard who has more tackles and flies around the field better than Williams. I wanted to give Woodyard his chance to start and here it is, he excels in coverage and this defense won't lose a step without DJ.

Knowshon Moreno RB- I had no need for Moreno, after he has underperformed, and it was time for him to get his shot elsewhere after tearing his ACL.

Elvis Dumervil DE- This was the hardest player to lose, To break up the Von Doom package is difficult, but with Dunlap who can stop the run and rush the passer, and with Thompson now inside I feel that the D-line is geared to stop the run and still rush the passer. I have promoted Jeremy Beal from the practice squad as the 4th rotaional end. I wish Doom the best of luck.

Andre Goodman CB- Replaced with Dunta Robinson.

Ryan Clady OT- Next year is the final year of his contract and it is time to move on from the Big fella.

Practice Squad

16 Goodwin, D'Andre WR 5-11 188 23 R Washington
67 Grant, Adam T 6-6 325 25 R Arizona
33 Omon, Xavier RB 5-11 227 26 3 Northwest Missouri State
93 Siliga, Sealver DT 6-2 307 21 R Utah
2 Weber, Adam QB 6-3 221 24 R Minnesota

With the #30 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft...
The San Francisco 49ers select...

With no need for a rookie starter in SF, the Niners decide to put strong focus on their depth. To start the offseason, the 49ers front office sees a better starting OL by sliding Anthony Davis to RG. He has played adequately at RT in 2011, but lacks ideal recovery to play in space. The promising and young Alex Boone has impressed as a swing-tackle since joining the team, and the Niners feel he is an excellent solution as the starting RT. Boone has the perfect skill-set for the RT role. His gained experience over the last 2 years and a full offseason will make him an upgrade at RT. Davis sliding inside is a massive upgrade to the RG spot. On the other side, Joe Staley has had excellent stretches mixed with head-scratching blocking failures. The Niners expect to quickly develop Mike Adams into an ideal swing-tackle that can perhaps eventually supplant Staley, if need be. Simple rule, protect the QB, and a better offense you shall have. All starts up front.

Lunacy? Haha, no... I think not. The 49ers new regime has shown that they prize freak potential over taking the safe bets. After Streeter gets done with the NFL Combine, he will soar up draft boards. At an easy 6' 4" and 215 lbs, Streeter opens some eyes with his 4.4 speed and deep threat abilities. We could be talking "the next Randy Moss" here, only Streeter has a rather shy and mature team-first disposition. The Niners want a huge target at WR to develop, and can take Streeter's development at as careful a pace as need be. This kid will draw extra coverage... give opposing coordinators headaches, and open up the field for our other weapons. He can also block well, and that's a must in SF's offense. Welcome to the WC, Tommy... now let's go get ring #6.

The San Francisco 49ers select...

The Niners have a good mix of young and old at the CB position, but were hungry to add another young and talented cover corner to the roster. We were very tempted to select Banks with our late 2nd rounder, so we are very happy to draft him here. Much like last year's 3rd round CB selected (Chris Culliver), Banks brings excellent size and speed to his game. He also has experience at safety, and has good ball skills.

With the #116 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft...
The San Francisco 49ers select...

After much debate in the war room between two prospects, the decision is made for superior value and potential over the safe prospect yet again. Taylor is a ridiculous freak in the mold of a baby Julius Peppers. He has an excellent first step and burst to the QB, and already has some experience with dropping into coverage. The Niners have veterans Ahmad Brooks, Cliff Avril, and 2nd year stud Aldon Smith as their pass rushers. They can take their time with Taylor and allow him to get stronger and wiser before he'll be called upon for a starting role.

With the #158 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft...
The San Francisco 49ers select...

The 49ers wrap up their 2012 draft by adding a quality OL that they had a mid-4th round grade on. Mosley will be looked at for the backup RT spot, but has the strength, nasty mentality, and skill to play OG if the need arises. In either case, it's always a good thing to add young, promising depth to the OL.
