|
RB | WR | TE | Swing T | IOL | 5 Tech | 0 Tech | Rush LB | Mack | Buck | Corner | Safety
Remember, this is a list for the Steelers only. Just guys that I see fitting into our scheme. I don't plan on seeing Matt Spaeth in the NFL in 2011 or 2012 if we have to wait that long.
TE
1. Andre Smith, Va Tech
- ST veteran on a unit that is well-known for being nasty.
- Big RZ target @ 6'5 272 (5 TDs in 2010)
- Better than average blocker, paving the way for Williams & Evans last year, and to a lesser extent (due to Williams' injury) this year.
2. Mike McNeil, NEB
- Proven receiver (Set Nebraska records for receptions by a TE)
- Gets excellent release, especially at the goalline. According to EPSN/Scouts, Inc. "Executes double moves near the goal line well. Does a nice job of avoiding traffic to get clean release off the line of scrimmage and wades through trash well working against zone coverage. Has an understanding for soft spots in zone and does a nice job of sitting down and working to throwing lanes."
- Willing to do the dirty work. Over the middle, road grade blocking assignments, etc.
3. D.J. Williams, ARK
- Mackey Award Winner this year.
- Unfortunately, he's probably the best TE in this weak class, so he'll go higher than he should, IMO.
- Only decent size (6'2, 240) for the position.
- Quality character guy. See: ESPN story.
- Consistent, soft hands.
- Per ESPN/Scouts, Inc.: "Willing to work the middle of the field and shows the concentration to pull in catch in traffic while taking a hit. Works to the whistle. Unselfish and plays with a team-first mentality. Possesses the versatility to contribute in multiple areas."
4. Jordan Cameron, USC
- Like Fendi Onubun, Jimmy Graham and Antonio Gates before him, Cameron is the latest basketball/TE crossover.
- Big body (6'5, 235) and he uses it well, box-out style on jump balls.
- An estimated 4.76 40 shows some respect for his above average speed.
- Clearly, Cameron is a project-player. He'll need a lot of work on his route running, blocking technique and core strength.
Close, but no cigarette
- Luke Stocker, TENN
- Charlie Gantt, MSU
- Rob Houser, FAU
- Allen Reisner, IOWA
- Schuylar Oordt, N. IOWA
- Kyle Rudolph, ND; Anthony Miller, CAL; George Bryan, NC STATE (Underclassmen)

Dj williams is far more than a receiver, way more. Hed be perfect as an hback type.
Stocker is lousy blocker and rudolph doesnt like to block either.
Ive liked gant at times, and Housler should be effective in this league he is better than the usc tight end..
A kid with some potential is the one from louisville needs to be more consistent and a more willing blocker. _________________

Saunders has character issues as far as I know. I dont' remember exactly what they are, but I think they were pretty serious. I just figured the Steelers would pass. _________________ Ain't no fun when the rabbit get the gun."

I like the kid from VT just from the write up.
He looks huge.
I'm hopig for our 3 TEs next year to be something like this:
1.) Heath- Average blocker and a much better receiver
2.) Andre Smith(or anyone)- Good blocker and an average receiver
3.) DJ Johnson- Punishing blocker, not much of a receiver.
That's a very balanced group. _________________

If the Steelers dont resign Spaeth, they're going TE/H-Back within the 1st 4 rounds.
Just my opinion though. _________________

I am a lazy draftnick (I haven't looked at potential players yet). I think that Andre' Smith is the best fit for the Steelers scheme and value from what I've seen of the posts. He'd be a great pick at #4 or #5 and he could contribute immediately if all is true about hm. _________________ "Being a Steeler fan starts when the sperm meets the egg!" -- Unknown Steeler Fan

| I like Zach Pianalto from NC. But the way the Steelers use the TE in the O I just see them going with what they have. Just think the Steelers have bigger needs before we look at a TE. |
