I'm going to say no; Honestly if you told someone that a team was benching their QB and over his past two seasons as a starter he had started 25 games in the regualr season and was 19-5-1. He was completing 64% of his passes, for 30 TD's and just 10 INT's, and had an overall QBR in the mid 90's I don't think anyone would beleive that coach was sane.
I would love to see Alex Smith running a Ken Whisenhunt offense, I think it is a perfect match to be honest. Smith now is very similar to late 08/09 Kurt.
By that same token, regardless of QB performance (Well not regardless, but putting it somewhere in the background for now) with Smith as their QB the 49ers in 9 games went over 30 points 3 times and scored 23.66 PPG.
In Colin Kaepernicks 5 starts the 49ers have gone over 30 three times and are scoring 28.8 PPG.
A team with the 49ers D scoring nearly 30 a game. That is very, very tough to beat. _________________ Patrick Peterson - 92 targets, 40 catches allowed, 602 yards, 6 TD's, 7 INT's

As a West fan I have followed Alex Smith his whole career and I envy his tenacity but I wouldn't want a QB here who is literally handcuffed. It's not gonna cut it at this level. |

Arizona & Chicago are #1 and #2 in the NFL in Opposing QB Rating and Interceptions. I think we're looking at a 13-10 type game Sunday. _________________

Who's starting for Arizona? If it's Lindley unless the defense scores I am not confiedent on the cardinals getting any points. |

They took Robert Gallery over Fitz.
It's a passing league now. Guys like Jerry Rice when it was actually earned when the rules didn't weigh so heavy in the receivers direction will hold more weight with me anyhow. |

Yes. He ended up blowing them away and damn near got the job but he was only truly brought in to fulfill the Rooney Rule. _________________

I was doing research to try to figure out the similarities between playoff teams and I came across something that is not totally surprising but interesting nonetheless
Arizona Cardinal defense first downs allowed:
Total: 288 (5th best)
By pass: 160 (best in NFL)
By rush: 107 (Tied for 25th)
The other 21 first downs came by penalties. _________________
