The Eagles, in all of Chip Kelly's wisdom, have just released Pro Bowl OG Evan Mathis.

Please god?

I see no reason that he shouldn't be in hot pursuit by our staff. He would be a great fit in the new zone blocking scheme and our line would actually look fairly stacked.

Matthews - Mathis - Hawley/Stone - Asamoah - Schraeder

Quinn and Co seem to be pretty content with Persons/Chester, but to my knowledge we have plenty of cap space left and Mathis would be a great pickup on the interior. I think he has experience in the ZBS no?

He does and I read somewhere that he doesn't want to go anywhere that is not employing a ZBS.

How do you know that? And he's a top 5 guard in the NFL. Why would we not want him?

This is what I said in the NFL News forum about Mathis...:

Lord knows we have a hole at the Guard positions here in Atlanta, and I'd love me some Mathis here in town.. the only thing that gives me pause is his age. We've seen other guards be able to still play at a high level into their mid 30's before.. but it still scares me a bit. I'm sure he's looking for a minimum of 4 years.. but I'd only feel comfortable probably with a 2-3 year deal max.

I think the staff would feel more comfortable starting him over Chester, but the problem is that we literally just signed Chester and we most likely promised him a legit shot at the starting LG spot. I'm fairly comfortable with Chester being the starter, but I really do wish Chip would have made this move a couple weeks ago. We have plenty of cap space and Mathis might very well have been a Falcon by now. Oh well, let's move on with what we got
