We've known it was coming, but it appears an important step is about to happen as Marvel is reportedly close to signing Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) to direct the film

Knew he was going to get is own movie after CA2, Probably going to be a dark movie after Derrickson is going to direct it. I will see it.

If it's Derrickson directing, don't be surprised if a guy by the name of C. Robert Cargill writes it.

He's both a diehard comic book (marvel) nerd, and he and Scott, last I knew, were still really good friends and working on Deus Ex together so, he might get dragged along for the ride.

Though I do love me some Stephen Strange: Sorcerer Supreme. Very Happy

The picture in the OP looks like Clint Eastwood.

C. Robert Cargill is definitely a huge nerd and would be great to have write a Doctor Strange movie. He comes to Minnesota quite often for the Convergence Con, and is hilarious.

I thought Bradley Cooper would've been a nice choice, he still could do it since Rocket isn't live-action but it makes it much less likely. He could easily do the early Strange well, and in his more recent movies made me think he could do the later Strange well too. He would've been on the younger side for it (38 to 48 is a good range for Strange). One of the many names I can think of.

I suspect they might have a few ideas, but every good actor over 38 who fits will get mentioned up until Comic-Con....which is where they'll probably announce him.

The names you always see is Johnny Depp, Cumberbatch, and Patrick Dempsey (who said he wanted to do it).

All I want is Javier Bardem for Mordo

I'v had quite enough (drunken) conversations with the guy to know he'd be perfect for it and absolutely l.o.v.e. love doing it. Granted the last real one we had was a few years ago but, I can't imagine he's any less geeky just because he made a Horror film. And man, he ditched us in Texas the last few years we did cons there to go to Convergance. Jerk. Laughing

I'm more excited for this film than I ever have been for any super hero film. Should be freaking awesome.

Hope they do at least two with Ruffalo, one right after Avengers 3 and one after the inevitable Avengers 4.

Only reason I don't want it to happen before then is I want a Planet Hulk inspired film first, then have a smarter Hulk be around for The Leader in the next one back on earth.

And Thanos/The Infinity Gauntlet has always been the answer to me of how you do Planet Hulk...without the Illuminati and without making him a villain.

There was a rumor awhile back about JGL playing the role.

Ah yea forgot about that...with Sandman that's off the table I'd expect.

This report says Jared Leto ahas been discussed internally.
But I'm not familiar enough with that site to know if they have any credibility when it comes to stuff like this.

Also says Derrickson might be taking a pass at the script.
