He was 61.

His death was confirmed by legendary Ohio State tackle John Hicks, a former teammate of Tatum.

A 3-time Pro-Bowler, Tatum was nicknamed "The Assassin" during his playing days because of his hard hits, one of them left former Patriots WR Darryl Stingley paraplegic in a 1978 pre-season game.

Tatum won Superbowl 11 with the Raiders.

WOW I cant believe this. Sad day for the Raider franchise, and football in general. We lost a legend today my friends. My thoughts are with the Tatum family.

Wow...this is devastating news.

When I think of the Raiders of the 70's this is one of the guys that comes right to mind. Intimidating and nasty on the field!! He set the tone!! Was a presence!!

One of the best to ever dawn the Silver and Black. Tatum was a member of the Raider Nation that truly embodied the spirit of our Franchise during the 70's and will be truly missed.

Rest in Peace Mr. Tatum!
