Hey,

So I bet my teacher, facetiously, that if there isn't a punter in the hall of Fame, I would get an A in the class, and if there isn't a punter in the hall of Fame, I would get an F in the class.

Could you guys help me out here? He claims that there's some former Redskins QB that also punted in there (I forget his name).

Thanks in advance

Well way, way back in the day they didn't have specialists so I wouldn't be surprised if there were guys in there who also were the team's punter. I know there were guys who were also kickers along with their other positions

But has there ever been a pure, strictly punter in the HOF? No. Ray Guy is the best punter of all time hands down, and he isn't in

Sammy Baugh is arguably the best punter ever, and he is in the HoF, but that is more on his prowess as one of the first elite QB's to play out of a more pro-style (I-Form, Ace) formation as opposed to the Wing T, and his ballhawking as a safety that his superb abilities as a punter.

Apart from him there is no punter in the HoF the only pure ST'er in there is Jan Stenerud the PlaceKicker...

If you want to get technical there are players who punted in the Hall of Fame, but no player inducted into the Hall of Fame as a punter.

None to date but soon the NFL will enshrine one. The first one that will go in though is Ray Guy, former first round pick.

Which one is it? You said "isn't" for both.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I should say congrats or sucks for you Laughing

But don't trust teachers to uphold that. You'll have to still work for your grade Laughing

He's talking about Sammy Baugh...Sammy Baugh did everything though. He played QB, Safety and Punted. In fact in 1943 he led the league in Passing, Punt Average, and Interceptions.

But there is no 100% pure Punter in the Hall of Fame. Ray Guy and Shane Lechler should go at some point though...hopefully.

Both Sammy Baugh and Yale Lary punted and are in the Hall.

Baugh is the QB from the Redskins and Lary a safety for the Lions. Both are in for these positions

Both were among the best punters of their day.

As has been said. No pure punter is in and the only pure kicke is Stenarud though today Groza is known more as a kicker than a OT (which he was also all-pro at many times).
