We have the ability to take things in a different direction than in real life. Here are some possible schematic changes we could make if we so decide:

1. Switch to a 3-4 defense from our current 4-3

2. Switch to a Tampa 2 defense for coverage instead of our current man-to-man

3. Switch to a power blocking scheme instead of our current ZBS for run blocking

Please let me know your thoughts on which, if any, of these changes you want to make as it will impact the types of players we choose.

Please let me know your thoughts on the following moves involving individual players:

1. Do we try to trade for Donovan McNabb?

2. Should we try to trade Thomas Howard or Kirk Morrison or both?

3. Do we move Richard Seymour inside to DT?

4. Do we need to replace Mario Henderson at LT? Can he switch to RT if we do replace him?

5. Do we need a veteran WR to go with our very young group at that position?

Please feel free to add your own thoughts on individual palyers on our team.

1. For the right Value, absolutely.

2. Trade Howard as he is currently depth on our LB's, granted he's probably the best depth LB in the league but that does make him expendable. Morrison if traded should be for a mid 2nd round pick at the least.

3. As far as DL sets we just need a NT and pass rushing end. Leave Seymour how he is it creates much more line versatility and with him at LE he will be filling a Strahan type role for us. For now...

Set 1
RE Shaugnessy
RDT Kelly
LDT Bryant
LE Seymour

Set 2
RE Shaughnessy
RDT Kelly
LDT Seymour
LE Richardson

4. Mario is fine at LT, the major difference was Gallo's presence from when he was "good" to when he was "bad."

5. I like our WR's but you know me value is value. If someone can add it then so be it.

1. I think that is a definite possibility considering we have almost all the pieces for it with the exception of a nt and ilb. If we could get them I Dont see y not.

2. We may not have the lbs to play in a Tampa 2 so no to that one

3. Idk if we have the size on our line to play that and it sounds like a pretty serious change.

1. As long as we don't give up too much for him i'd love to have him.

2. For the right price 3rd or better ship em out and get some value before they walk next year.

3. Use him like we did this year and put him in the lineup where he is needed.

4. Don't pass on a franchise lt if we can. He is still a bit of a ? To me and if we get a chance to draft a lt then pull the trigger and move him to rt.

5. For a cheap price yes. It's not a necessity so I don't want to over pay for one

1. I would stick with a 43 defense. We do have some of the components to shift, but given that we need a makeover on our OL, we need to use those picks there rather than shifting defensive scheme and making players like Shaughnessy redundant.

2. This shift is tempting and would benefit guys like Howard while making it easier to find starters at CB. However, the excessive use of man-2-man coverage is just such a Raider thing that I don't think I would want to lose it - this may sound dumb, but being a starting CB for the Raiders and succeeding is a major achievement!

3. Please, please, please switch to a PBS - that is also a message to Al Davis, not just for FFMD. We as a team covet the deep ball, and to do that you need to hold the pocket for more than 3 seconds - ZBS is IMO philisophically at odds with the Air Coryell deep ball strategem, as the lighter lineman as a general rule cannot overpower their guy and sustain blocks as easily. We already have some peices - Gallery, Walker, Barnes, and this is a deep draft for OL.

1. I would say don't trade for Donovan McNabb. I analysed Gradkowski's figures in the 3.5 games in which he was a starter and on a previously losing team, with a horrid OL and a young receiving corps he attained a QB rating of 89.7 which is almost what McNabb achieved in Philly over the season (92.9) with a better receiving corps and a significantly better OL. I know we all have fantasies of bringing in a guy who can have a Gannon-like effect and riding it all the way to a Superbowl, but Gradkowski is my guy - he has all the intangibles you look for, and with a better OL can be a top-15 QB (read the stats!).

2. I would put 2nd round value on both, but given the depth of this draft I would even consider a 3rd rounder for each (maybe a higher 3rd rounder) if the right player was still available.

3. As a principle I would move Seymour inside to DT. I want my RE to get sacks and be decent against the run, As a RE he is probably the best against the run in the NFL (that was a loose cannon statement not verified against any stats), but at a listed 310 lbs he won't have the speed to consistently be getting to the QB. He is an UT in our system (IMO). However, we should also use his ability to play End when in certain obvious running situations etc. - but to me, he is primarily an UT.

4. Unlike Al Davis, I don't think that Mario is a long-term solution at LT (although he could be serviceable for a year or two). I would like him at RT from a pass protection point of view - up against generally less athletic DEs he is going to excel, though his poor run blocking is a concern. Either way, I think we can use him at one end of the line in 2010.

5. No, if anything the better option is to draft another rookie, though lower down and let the likes of Murph and Chaz become leaders. If there is a high quality free agent, then I think we consider, but otherwise, go with the youth movement.

The other thing not listed is that we should look into the Gaither thing - although I reckon Baltimore fans will rate him higher than the actual franchise seems to.

Grad played as a starter for 4 games (well 3.5 as he got carted off injured at half time in the fourth game). That is a quarter of a season, which IMO is plenty of time to assess his abilities.

Grad got hurt because of our atrocious OL - how long do you think McNabb would have lasted behind that OL??

Ya its my personal favorite as well but you can't knock having

RE Shuaghnessy
RDT Kelly
LDT Bryant
LE Seymour

Bryant really earned his shield last year in his limited role (i.e. the release of Gerard Warren) and needs to see the field as much as we can fit him in. He's got a big future ahead of him.
