| I think you can argue that 3 new safeties need to be brought in. Mundy and Tyrone Carter are mediocre at best and Clark is more of a hitter than cover safety. I don't like the idea of resigning Clark given how he throws his body around. I think the Steelers need to look at bringing in a safety or safeties in FA as well drafting a safety in one of the first couple of rounds. |

Pretty much.
I wanted to keep Clark. For as bad as he has been without Troy, I cant see him being too hard to replace. I love Clark as a team player, but without Troy, he is a below average player.
Ty Carter has outstayed his welcome. At this point, Id rather see Stephen Hawking as our backup safety.
Mundy has nothing to offer...I knew that when we drafted him.
Im sure one or two of them will be back, but if Troy were the only safety from this year left on the 2010 team, I wouldnt complain. _________________

We've got nothing else, so Clark almost has to be retained.
Everyone else can go. _________________

Clark or another FS that is signed thats capable of starting will most likely be the starter next year.....
The FA FS crop is kinda top heavy with Bethea and Collins though.
Ive heard good things about Tyvon Branch with the Raiders but hes a RFA......
In all honesty, I think Clark is back in 2010. _________________

The Steelers have a good crop of backup safeties but nothing of the starter quality. I like T Carter when he's a 3rd or 4th option in the secondary and Clark has way to much experience with Troy to just let him walk. It's chemistry that lets Troy be who he is and lets him play the ball we all love. _________________

I agree that for as much as i like clark and his team first attitude, he is not much without troy around.
A possible replacement that would not break the bank is Eric Smith of the Jets. Solid zone cover guy and used to playing deep middle for the jets.
Carter has played his last days imo and is no loonger worth even the vet min at this point in his career. drafting a safety in the 2-3rd rounds such as Rolle would be a possible replacement for him.
As for mundy, i am not impressed with anything he has done, but he is a very cheap option as a 4th saftey and could possible be competing for his job with one of our rookies from this year. _________________

Clark needs to come back, just for the fact that we can go into next season with a major gap in the Starting lineup.
But speaking of him, I got a picture with him after the game yesterday. He's a pretty cool dude. Out of all the Steelers's players he stayed and talked with the fans the longest. Also, Ben's arm was in a sling. _________________
