Hours later, sources said Ernie Accorsi was hired as the team's GM. The move is a blast from the past for Browns' fans. Accorsi was the Browns' GM from 1985 to 1992.

He also served as GM of the Colts from 1982 to 83, and also worked in the Giants' front office from 1994 to 2004, including a stint as New York's GM from 1998 and on.

In 2004, he spearheaded a trade to get No. 1 pick Eli Manning from the Chargers.

eh accorsi makes sense

Lerner is surrounding him with blasts from the pasts (Accorsi, Kosar Jim Brown and I believe Kevin Mack were all advisors to him) and Accorsi has had success in both Cleveland and New York. He created the teams that lost in such heartbreaking fashion in Cleveland and presided over the Giants when they went to the Super Bowl in 2001.

He drafted most recently
Osi
Snee
Manning
Gibril Wilson
Justin Tuck
Brandon Jacobs
Kiwi

he also signed
Antonio Pierce
Plaxico
Kareem McKenzie
Fred Robbins

if he can infuse that talent to the Browns i'll jump for joy

Is this confirmed?. I have read he is more of a tutor to Kosar who will be the gm.

Sounds like another knee jerk reaction by the owner.

right
nothing like bringing in a guy who once brought your team to greatness and also helped architect and rebuild the giants... especially after he was an adviser/confidant to you because he liked the browns.

also, kokinis wasn't in lerners good graces as it is coming out now that he literally did nothing. nothing at all.

accorsi actually helped lerner hire mangini.
accorsi will help groom kosar to be his replacement.

this is the best news i've heard as a browns fan since week one.

Thats not saying much. Laughing

IMO I like it, I just hope Accorsi is going to be more hands on for a few years atleast before releasing the control to Bernie. The idea of Bernie as GM is intriguing but moreso because of his name than because of his expertise. He did build a hell of an arena team, so I guess thats a start.

I just hope that Accorsi spends ALOT of time with him to show him rights and wrongs. We can't get this one wrong. I just love the fact that now Mangini can just be the coach or get out of town.

EAcantdraft does not endorse this hiring. Laughing

It's a good move IMO. As mistakebythelake pointed out, he brought in some good players. He was responsible for building the Superbowl roster.

Expect a LOT of passrushers. Accorsi believes that you win by pressuring the opposing team's QB.

Yeh, this will make a massive difference, I mean afterall, the previous GM was the guy who wanted all those crappy Jets players.

Accorsi isn't a bad GM, but theres far more grounds for firing Mangini than their GM.

The only awful high picks I ever remember Accorsi making in his decade or so were William Joseph and Sinorice Moss. His best draft was probably a year when we didn't even have a 1st round pick, when in 2005 he drafted Corey Webster, Justin Tuck and Brandon Jacobs.

A great hire at GM, he brings a whole lot more credibility to the team than Kokinis did. Something needed to change in Cleveland, and I'm happy they changed GMs, because I still think Mangini can be a good coach there. They just lack a lot of talent, which hopefully will change under a Accorsi draft.

Looking like it's not true...

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2009/11/reports_of_cleveland_browns_hi.html

The Plain Dealer is reporting that Accorsi is "happily retired"

The Browns have more happening off the field than on the field this season.

I don't think he was brought in as the GM, but I think he was brought in as a mentor to Kosar or whoever is being groomed as the next "football czar". I don't think it is a full time position, just helping Kosar hit the ground running. We'll wait and see though over the next few days.
