We have 53 players on the roster, but only so many can dress on game day. Now say Tomlin doe'nt have Dixon dress and both Ben and Batch get injured, are we allowed then to dress Dixon and put him in? Because it would be obvious Ben and Batch will not return to the game. Or does a emergency QB like Hines or someone have to play?

If a player is inactive....then he can't play in the game. No matter who gets injured.

this is a very real possibility because our o-line is horrendous. I cant believe how many time I saw defenders just run free. It's ridiculous.

There is actually an exception for QB's. Every team can have a 3rd QB who is not "active" (e.g. does not count against the 45 gameday roster spots), but who can play if the first two QB's get injured. The catch is that if the 3rd "emergency" QB comes into the game before the 4th quarter, then neither of the first two QB's can play the rest of the game.

Last year against the Browns we had 3 QBs suited up I think. Because, once Ben got hurt and they sent in Leftwich, they said that Dixon was warming up on the side line because, they were gonna rest Leftwich for the game next week because they were unsure if Ben would be able to play.

The rule in the NFL is that the 3rd QB is considered inactive but can still dress for the game. He can only come in if the starter and the backup have to be taken out of the game and once he is in they cannot put the starter back in the game. So Dixon will be considered inactive but can come in to the game in a freak situation where Ben and Batch get hurt

Its not that hard to believe. Hines was a QB in college.

He only started 1 game. But no its not that hard to believe when you look at some of the throws he made on the reverse passes.

The Emergency QB can dress but does not count as a roster spot ( per 53). So Dixon dressed every week but was never active because Rothlesberger would have to be out and not coming back for him to be used.

Quote:

The emergency (third) quarterback may now enter the game in just the fourth quarter, regardless if the other two quarterbacks are able to play. This means that if the third string quarterback enters the game, the first and/or second quarterback may re-enter, unlike the past two seasons where the emergency quarterback would only play off the first two were unable to resume play.
