Totally unexpected, but it makes sense as we need right handed shots. The loss of Ribeiro meant we needed some playmaking skills to go along with creativity and point production. Ray Whitney fit the bill pretty well.
I still hope we are still in the hunt for other FAs though.

Another trade idea came to mind. What about calling up Montreal so we can take some of their bad contracts off of their hands? Plekanec and Cole are at the top of my list, but they may be tough to come away with. Montreal would love to give up Gomez, and he's always been a personal favorite of mine. We do need a 2nd line center too. I feel that he can still play if he is in the right system and has right players around him.
In this case, I could see him centering a line with Loui on LW and Ryder at RW
Then Benn with Morrow and Whitney.
Solid, but I kind of want to move Morrow down to a third line role so that we can spread our offense out a bit. Plus we could upgrade over him in free agency if we land somebody like Semin or Jokinen.

That he is, but now I think we should trade Morrow or get another forward that can score. Semin is still at the top of my list, but I also like Jokinen since he can definitely play center and might be able to play with Benn on our first line if we move Jamie back to LW.
Benn-Jokinen-Ryder
Loui-Roy-Whitney
Morrow-Fiddler-Nystrom
Those lines complement each other well enough, but I'd prefer a mix of them so that scoring can be distributed among our top 3 lines.
Add Semin in there and Ryder could be knocked down to 3rd line duty. 
Prolly better to go all in on Suter and Carle though. We need a PP QB.

Needed a change in scenery and we needed some Grit and toughness. Roy can make fans pull there hair out sometimes though. |

Of course just minutes after I type up how we should go after Jokinen, he agrees to sign with the Jets.
Suter and Carle please.
I actually hear that we might go after Stempniak. He would help us cope with Ott's departure. However, I still think that we need to go after a guy like Semin as well. We need to go all in this offseason and then again next offseason. We have the resources to do so.

I hope he and Whitney aren't paired together. We need some size now. Eakin, Roy, and Whitney are all under 6'0.

I don't think the Stars are getting anybody else. 
We still have to strike deals with all of our RFAs, one of whom (Benn), is due around $5 million a year.

We are still a ways away from the cap floor. I hear we are in talks with Jagr, which I would love. If we can land him and Carle, this would be a successful offseason

Well we got Jagr. Hopefully we get Carle, but we gotta take care of our RFAs first. They will take up a decent amount of space.
If not Carle, then maybe call up Oleksiak and make Larsen a full time starter. I think Larsen already is though. Perhaps call up Jordie Benn instead of Oleksiak? Jordie is NHL ready and has innate chemistry with his bro. Jordie strikes me as a versatile player in the league, as he could probably play forward very easily.

I hope Faksa does make this team. He would be a good third line center.
Loui-Benn-Whitney
Morrow-Roy-Jagr
Eakin-Faksa-Ryder
Nystrom-Fiddler-Vincour
Solid, but not an elite team in any shape. It could be a playoff team. I think that we will be going after some big names in trades though.
