245. All My Life by Jay Rock, will.i.am, and Lil Wayne

When I first heard this song I enjoyed it. The beat was amazing, will.i.am KILLS the chorus, and Jay Rock + Weezy both spit the truth and take over the beat. Also, this song brings back good memories. One of my close friends bumps this all the time in the car (which I'm always riding in) so it brings back good times. This was also the last song I listened to with one of my other friends. Me and him were always talking hip hop, and he was always showing good music. I haven't been able to reach him since he moved back to Miami, and it will be hard to reach him now since I heard he's going through some bad ish, and he's the hardest man in the world to get in touch with. Laughing So a lot of memories in this song. Jay Rock is just another young, bright rapper coming out of Cali. And I'll sure check out his album whenever it drops... Who said the west coast is dead?

Quote:
I wasn't born with a silver spoon
Child of the ghetto, raised off a different tune
Watchin' Bob Barker in my living room
If "The Price Was Right", I could get you a whole living room
Yeah, them was my gutter ways back in the gutter days
No education, but the gutter pays
Through it all came a long way
From sellin' the yay', fist fights to gun play
Back then

-Jay isn't a tremendous lyrictist, but damn he goes hard.

Quote:
'Til I found myself a block away from the cross road
I have, outgrown the fishbowl
And I'm on my feet like a - insole
Yeah it may hurt like a - left no
But it's "- the world", like a - nympho
And we spend dough, cause we make more
And I make sure, when I say so
It's Jay Rock and Weezy, need I say more
Closeline the beat tear, DB I say flow

-Not great, but above average for Wayne.

Quote:
Green light green light, whatcha green like?
Before ya size me up, get the seam right
And I just hop in the phantom when I'm being nice
Cause drivin' slow in the Lam', it doesn't seem right
Yeah, and I remember them long nights
Livin' the wrong life, but I made that wrong right

- Wayne always seems to make me crack a laugh or two.

I come from the bottom,
but now I'm on top,
nobodys gonna stop me yo.

244. Back Like That (Remix) by Ghostface Killah with Kanye West and Ne-Yo

Nothing is like getting rid of a bad chick, getting a date the next day, her hearing about it, you waking up the next morning with a text from her, and you ignoring it and putting on this song. NOTHING. This song is gold. Ne-Yo kills the chorus, I've always digged Ye's style (well half of the time), and Ghostface is a legend.

Quote:
But, back to you, mad gloss chick, you're way fit
How you have everything in this world and waste it
Prince told me it'll be ok, I'm so sick
Like Ne-Yo say, I'm laid back, like neo-soul
I holla back at this Creole hoe
She from the N.O., but she never told me, and oh so
We at the spot to chill, with a Fugee grill
So ordered the Kobe beef like Shaquille O'Neal
Second I walked in, the whole room got still
I don't know how to put this but, I'm kind of a big deal

-Ye's clever, but can he go one line without showing off his HUGE ego? Laughing

Quote:
But it's all good, I move from ex to next
Got the baddest little chick to sign off of them checks
Fat bubble, her body's like one of the best
But I don't need to say nothing, ask Kanye West
She eye candy, smoother than Godiva chocolate
And you mad cuz you played ya self, it's your fault, trick

-Now that's how you tell a girl who is messing with you.

Yeah, what I did was wack,
But you don't get a - back like that.

243. You Got Me by The Roots

I feel like I keep underrating The Roots, and in everyone song they keep proving me wrong. Like them or not you have to respect their style and Black Thought's storytelling ability. This song is no different. The beat is smooth and Erykah Badu's vocals are so relaxing on this track. Black Thought tells an amazing story and it's very complex. I'm still trying to understand the whole story, and you could interpret it in many different ways. As for quotes....... the whole song is a lyrical gem.

Speaking of underrating them..... I might have underrated this song. After just listening to it, I think it deserves to be higher. Laughing

I'll definitely stay tuned to this. Roped me in with The Roots. "You Got Me" is easily one of my favorite songs, however I could probably select about 20 some odd songs from The Roots to be my favorite.

I'd recommend more than one a day, especially with 245 songs to tackle. Notice all those guys you mentioned never finished theirs either. It's tough to tackle every day for several weeks. I remember having a tough time finishing a list of 25 bands I thought people needed to check out. But good luck.

Glad to see a new hip-hop thread on FF, I'm lovin' the wealth of knowledge and diverse tastes this forum has. The more threads, the better IMO. As much diversity as possible I say.

I'm diggin' the legendary Roots crew mention!

Along with the others, I'll be checkin' in daily.

I think you misread me. I plan to have ATLEAST one song per day. I'm aiming for three a day, and might post more then three some days. Writing my thoughts on each song doesn't take that long, making the list was the hard part.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I should have a new batch up today.
