Perhaps its because of the Ravens 2-7 record, but BJ Sams has very quietly been putting together an excellent season as a punt returner. Sams is averaging exactly 12 yards per return which is over a yard more then then the second best mark of Chicago's Bobby Wade at 10.9 yards per return. Sams also is tied for the league lead with Miami's Wes Welker with 4 returns of 20 yards or more. Sams also has yet to fumble this season. The only blemish is that he has yet to take back a punt for a touchdown, something only 3 players in the league have done this season.

Heres a good article on Sams from BaltimoreRavens.com as well...

He was good last year also, just fumbled too much. I'd like to see him get involved in the offense a few plays per game, he has that natural play making ability

I know its unfair to blame Sams for last year, but one bonehead play by him really hurt our season and helped keep us out of the playoffs. In the Bengals' come from behind win, he tried to dive to catch a punt, muffed it and gave the bengals the ball back with amazing position (inside the 20 i think). Had we won that game we would have been in the playoffs. I know you cant blame it on him, but he made some bad decisions that hurt us. He did however, make some really big plays that helped us. Im glad to see that hes kept the ball off the ground this year. He could be instrumental in helping this team be good again next year, b/c he really helps in the 3rd phase of the game, special teams.
