I see three major question marks:
1. Without any real depth behind Barnes and Henderson, can they produce satisfactorily.
2. Do Shaughnessy and Norris shore up our run defense or does our weakness at NT continue to mean we lose games on the ground.
3. With a load of WR projects can Schilens, Shields or Murphy step up and become a decent #2. |
I see one major question mark, how does that draft help our run D? Shaughnessy is the only player who could help but don't expect much from him next year. |
Our draft really doesn't shore up the run D on the lines.
I guess the theory is that if we score 30, teams won't be able to run. Or pass. We'll see...
I think Mitchell helps the D overall though, if he comes as physical as billed. We've missed a punishing presence for soooooo long. Doesn't matter what position it is, you need a punisher. |
I don't really buy that. I think the Mitchell pick may be really good, but I don't think it helps the run defense too much.
I thought Gibril did a good job last year, and our run defense didn't get any better.
We need players to stop runs at the line, not mop up plays that have got by our DL and LBs.
Just my opinion... |
Mine too. The run is stopped by the front 7, if the safety is stopping the runner, you haven't stopped the run.
I like our weapons on offense though, there's a lot of big play threats bewteen DMAC, JLH, DHB and Chaz. If Walker can somehow help Miller moving the chains, we might be fun to watch next season. _________________

Read closer next time and you'll see I didn't say it did either. I clearly said "I guess the theory..", meaning I assume that to be Al and Cable's theory. Not mine. |

Both. He's a great blocker, with Shonn Green producing tons of yards. He was 1st Team All Big Ten (Myers). |
Well he is fine by me then. If the boy can catch it's a bonus, but what we really need is someone who can get in-line and let Miller roam up the field on 2 TE sets. |

| The only one pick that I really, really like is Stryker Sulak. He can be another Trevor Scott type player for us. Hopefully picks like DHB and Michael Mitchell can justify their draft selections. |

I think Sulak and Murphy were our best value picks.
I think my favourite pick was Shaughnessy, as he is most likely to help our Run Defense.
I hated the Mitchell pick yesterday, but now I'm pretty excited about it.
I'd be really pleased with this draft if I had more faith in the Run D and OL.
C+, but with a few boom or bust types I think it'll wind up being an B+ or an D- in a couple of years. |

Overall I am thinking this draft is graded somewhere between a C+ and a B-, mainly because we had a tendancy to reach and the fact that we didn't address DT or do anything on OL which are two of our three biggest needs (although there is still UDFA and then final cuts!!).
Here is my list of targets for UDFA (although obviously some may get picked in the remainder of the 7th round):
Aaron Kelly, WR, Clemson
Dan Gronkowski, TE, Maryland
Brannan Southerland, FB, Georgia
Gerald Cadogan, OL, Penn State
Augustus Parrish, OL, Kent State
Jason Watkins, OT, Florida
Trevor Canfield, OG, Cincinnati
Khalif Mitchell, DT, East Carolina
Chris Baker, DT, Hampton
Tez Doolittle, DT, Auburn
George Hypolite, DT/DE, Colorado
Zach Potter, DT/DE, Nebraska
Pannel Egboh, DE, Stanford
Michael Bennett, DE, Texas A&M
Mitch King, DE, Iowa
Lee Robinson, LB, Alcorn State
Darry Beckwith, LB, LSU
Antonio Appleby, LB, Virginia
Domonique Johnson, CB, Jackson State
Wopamo Osaisai, CB, Stanford
Otis Wiley, S, Michigan State
Jason Boltus, QB, Hartwick
