Sacks given up in 2008

Man those stats really stand out....problem is the steelers O line allowed Big Ben to get 2 broken ribs...sacks isn't the only stat that matters....

Rumored to have gotten broken ribs and I'm not defending steelers Oline it's freaking horrible as you can see it's one of the worst in the NFL...They gave up that many sacks with how often they run the ball and with how hard it is to sack Big ben...

But with that being Said Broncos,Titans,Saints,Colts & Falcons had some of the best Olines yet the only ones make it to the playoffs were one and done...Colts have been the only high powered Offense with a crappy defense in how many years ? to win a superbowl...If we could establish the running game and continue to improve our defense I'm sure carson wouldn't mind.

PS,Ben may have broke a couple of his ribs,But he also has 2 Superbowl rings with realistic chance of getting a couple more...

People underestimate the fact the Cardinals O-Line was really good in pass protection. And the Steelers were solid in run blocking. Games are won and lost in the trenches, and we need to improve there.

Not really sure of the point/direction of this thread, but here's my take.

As stated above, Steelers line can run block very well. Obviously they haver issues at pass blocking.

Part of Arizona's high sack numbers revolve around the fact they pass so much. They didn't try to run the ball in the middle of the season. i also think (but I don't have any numbers to prove it) that they gave up way more sacks in the first half of the season and in those two pitiful December games (where they gave up 8 or 9 sacks a game against NE and some other good team...too lazy to lookit up though).

Guichiac may have only given up 4 sacks, but how many hurries or klnockdowns did he allow? Same with Andrews. Speaking of Andrews, why does it seem in Hobson's articles that we are bent on keeping him?

And to the original poster with the numbers..... Levi Brown plays for the cardinals. Levi JONES plays LT for the Bengals. heck, you didn't even get Bobbie Williams name right either.

Sacks allowed is a team statistic. I mean do these stat guys really know who each guy was supposed to be blocking, or does every player just man up after the game with a "my bad"

This all seems a bit confused.

The Steelers have moved to a passing offense with lots of multiple receiver sets. They lost Marvel Smith and Kendall Simmons for much of the year with injuries. That, coupled with the fact Big Ben holds onto the ball a long time trying to make plays and the fact that no-one feared their running game (23rd in the league with an average of 3.7 a rush), meant an awful lot of sacks given up. They need to totally overhaul their line this offseason.

As for defense wins championships: the Steelers defense got taken apart in the SB for over 400 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Cards defense allowed 300 yards and 2 touchdowns. That means the Cards should have won. Instead it was Big Ben chucking the ball downfield that won the SB. Surely the last thing the Bengals want is to become another Baltimore and have the league's best defense for a decade but rarely have enough offense to challenge.

I agree about not going tackle in round one though. If we want to improve the running game we need to improve the interior line and top guards and centres are available in rounds two and three.
