Cuts/Retire/Dont Resign
Andra Davis
Willie McGinest
Shaun Smith
Antwan Peek
Terry Cousin
Jason Wright
Travis Daniels
John Madsen
Chase Pittman
Shante Orr
Hank Fraley
Nick Sorensen
Darnell Dinkins
Resign
Joshua Cribbs I know we already resigned him a few years back, but he has asked for a raise and he has earned a raise and an extension to his current contract.
Mike Adams - Good depth and wont cost a lot of $$$$
Seth McKinney - See Above
Sean Jones - Transistion Tag
Lennie Friedman - See McKinney & Adams
Kris Griffin - Solid but not spectacular by any means; has to come at the right price - No more than $500-$600K/season
Daven Holly - Sign to a 1 year deal, should come cheap, has to prove himself and raise his value
Joe Jurevicius Has publicly said he will re-work his contract to help the Browns cap situation; I am going to assume the Browns take advantage of this gesture
Free Agency
Dwan Edwards DE 6'3 / 315lbs
Kenny Peterson DE 63 / 305 lbs
Both of these players should come relatively cheap and fill a specific need that I feel we need, more athletic DEs. If you analyze teams that run the 3-4 D well, they do not have big, fat, slow DEs; their DEs are big and strong, yet they are athletic to run stretch out a play to the sideline if they have to.
Eric Barton ILB 6'2" 245 lbs Already knows Mangini and his system and should not cost too much.
David Carr QB Backup to Brady Quinn
George Foster OT 65 / 338 lbs
Trades
D.Anderson to Minnesota for 3rd Rd #86 & 7th Rd #207
2009 NFL Draft
#5 Malcom Jenkins CB OSU 6'1" 202 lbs I want Aaron Curry at this pick, but I think KC will take him at #3, with the draft being deep at LB, we jump on the best CB available and will add LBs later in the draft.
#36 - Clay Matthews OLB USC 6'3" 247 lbs I feel he can make an immediate impact with our pass rushing schemes
#86 - Nic Harris SS Oklahoma Big safety 63 / 230 lbs Wont make a ton of plays in coverage, but will help shore up our run defense. By adding Jenkins, a potential shut down CB, it will allow your S and LBs to cheat up, play in the box and blitz more.
#100 - Travis Beckum WR Wisconsin - Big (64 235lbs), although he played primarily TE in college, he is being projected more as a WR in the NFL due to his inability to block. Comparable to Colston on the Saints, he was also a TE in college and they converted him to WR. Braylon will be your #1 and he can stretch the field, Beckum #2 more of a possession receiver.
#164 PJ Hill RB Wisconsin - 61 236 lbs Chain mover, can watch Jamal and Jerome Harrison get most of the touches this year. I am assuming the Browns are going to give Jerome Harrison more of an opportunity this year. Otherwise, my mock would change.
Pretty Cool Pic with Joe Thomas blocking for him
#207 Jasper Brinkley ILB South Carolina 62 270 lbs Increase our depth at ILB, a great run stuffer, falls due to knee injury suffered in 2008
2009 Roster

Swap out the Nic Harris pick with a Center or OTackle for depth(maybe a starter?) and this would be a great off season, if Curry is not available.

Y would we resign Jones and draft Harris? You dont accomplish anything by doing that. _________________

Harris can play Nickel and FS, but he's being thought of as an OLB in the NFL because he's got 4.6 speed. I think he's a good pick-up, he plays much faster than his timed speed and he's not shy about laying the wood. _________________

I debated on that for a long time; I agree that if the right value is there for an OL, we should jump on him.
Thanks for the input |

How could you suggest that adding a player like Nic Harris and retaining S.Jones doesn't accomplish anything for us?
Are you comfortable with Jones and Pool as your starting Safties, I am not, but if you like them together then, you're right, it doesn't make sense.
I feel one of the things our D needs is the big intimidating Safety who can play in the box as an extra LB and smash WR's that try to come across the middle.
I feel that S.Jones is both athletic and fast enough to make the transition to FS, he has good ball skills, but he is a bit too agressive. If they can teach him to not be so agressive while in coverage and understand his new responsibilities as the FS, rather than the SS, I think this could be a beneficial move.
That would be a great tandem at S;
SS - Nic Harris: 6'3" 230
FS - S Jones: 6'1" 205
Both have adequate size and should allow our corners to man up more with the WR due to their play making ability. This will also allow us to use B.Pool as a corner in more packages; if you remember the Browns did this with Pool a few years back when Brian Russell was still a starting Safety. I thought Pool excelled as a situational corner.
All in all, this pick will add depth to a position where it is needed and also allow our coaches more flexibility while creating a good D week in and week out.
Thanks for the input |

Harris could be used in the box and as a blitzer type guy. I do like that pick. I am hoping Larry English or someone else fails in the 2nd because for how awesome it would be to get Clay Matthews son on our team, he isn't worth it yet. We need an absolute impact starter in the 2nd round and I think he will be a situational pass rusher. He only had 3 sacks last year. I am hoping for Clint Sintim or Larry English. _________________

I like most of the draft picks and am neither for nor against Harris, but Sean Jones doesn't have the range to play FS. He's always been a liability in coverage and known more for playing in the box. Making him cover more ground is not going to help his game.
Why would anyone want David Carr at this point in his career? We might as well offer Ryan Leaf a contract... _________________

Just because Sean Jones has FS size in no way says he can play FS. He has been fine playing in the box and isnt at his best playing on an Island. Pool would be a better FS than Jones because Jones doesnt have the across the field speed you need to play FS. Pool could play a little corner, but I'd rather keep Jones who has already shown he produce at SS in a 34 than draft a rookie and hope that both Jones and Harris can make the transition together. _________________
