Trades
The Minnesota Vikings trade their 2009 1st round pick (32) to the Baltimore Ravens for their 2nd round pick (60) 3rd round pick (89), and their 6th round pick (187).

2009 NFL Draft

Round 2 Pick 60 (from Baltimore)
Brandon Pettigrew / TE / Oklahoma State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 260.
Projected 40 Time: 4.75.
Projected Round (2009): 2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXCekptH9mc&feature=channel_page
Brandon Pettigrew wasn't drafted because Visanthe Shiancoe's a terrible tight end. He was drafted because Minnesota uses alot of two tight end sets and with Shiancoe and Pettigrew in the game the opposing team wouldn't know if it's a pass or run play.

walterfootball said:
10/26/08: Brandon Pettigrew missed some time with an ankle injury, which would explain why he had just 11 receptions going into the Texas game. Pettigrew came up big against the Longhorns, catching eight balls for 83 yards.

5/23/08: Brandon Pettigrew continued to make strides, catching 35 passes for 540 yards and four touchdowns in 2007. As Matt McGuire describes in his scouting report (click Pettigrew's name to see it), Pettigrew is a first-round talent, but probably won't go there because of character issues. Pettigrew allegedly assaulted a police officer on Jan. 20.

2007: The tight end in Oklahoma State's lethal offense, Brandon Pettigrew had 24 receptions for 310 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore.

Round 2 Pick 64
Victor Harris / CB / Virginia Tech
Height: 6-0. Weight: 195.
Projected 40 Time: 4.49.
Projected Round (2009): 2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCQwDW66yCY
Even though Kelvin Hayden was signed Victor Harris is still drafted because Antoine Winfield's 31 and we need someone to replace him in the future. But right now Harris would be our nickel man and he would also return punts and kicks.
Quote:
walterfootball said:
12/13/08: Macho Harris returned two interceptions for touchdowns this year. He had six picks total, along with seven passes broken up. An All-ACC First Teamer.

5/17/08: A play-maker who has seen time at receiver and kick returner. Like Brandon Flowers, Victory Harris would operate best in the cover-2.

2007: Macho Harris, who had five interceptions as a junior, has decided to stay for his senior season after declaring for the draft.

Harris, who doubles as a kick returner, started all 13 games as a sophomore.

Round 3 Pick 89 (from Baltimore)
Ramses Barden / WR / Cal Poly
Height: 6-6. Weight: 226.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSIhHsa8otc
Minnesota drafted Ramses Barden because he's a big physical receiver that could be extremely helpful in the red zone. Barden's also a very good blocker and that's important for a receiver on this team.
Quote:
walterfootball said:
10/19/08: The only Mustang of note, Ramses Barden has at least 131 yards and a touchdown in every game this season.

5/22/08: And I thought a 42-catch, 824-yard campaign was impressive. Ramses Barden smashed his 2006 numbers, collecting 57 receptions, 1,467 yards and 18 touchdowns last year. I don't care where you play - that's downright impressive.

2007: Ramses Barden's 6-6 frame may get him drafted, but unless he gets quicker, he'll have trouble getting separation in the NFL. Produced at 1-AA, accumulating 824 yards last year and 14 touchdowns the past two seasons.

Round 3 Pick 96
Graham Harrell / QB / Texas Tech
Height: 6-2. Weight: 206.
Projected 40 Time: 4.73.
Projected Round (2009): 3.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JMUs5_abxo
Minnesota drafted Graham Harrell because their not completely sold on Tarvaris Jackson yet. And Harrell can sit on the bench and learn the first couple of seasons.
Quote:
walterfootball said:
12/20/08: No Texas Tech quarterback has recently made the jump to the NFL successfully, but Graham Harrell has the best chance to do so. He finished with 4,747 yards, 41 touchdowns and seven picks, with a completion percentage of 71.5 and a YPA of 8.4.

10/12/08: Graham Harrell could be the best NFL prospect to come out of Texas Tech in its current regime, but that's not saying much. Harrell has a shot to go in the fifth round. He'll likely be a career backup in the NFL.

3/26/08: Another Texas Tech quarterback? Sort of - Graham Harrell is much better than any of his predecessors. Still, it's a bit scary to take a signal caller from a school that has produced nothing but NFL duds (see Florida Gators as another example). Harrell, like Chase Holbrook and Colton Brennan, produces disgusting numbers because of his offense. He threw for 5,705 yards, 48 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 2007.

2007: Something scouts won't be able to measure is Harrell's ability to perform in the clutch. Down 31 points with less than eight minutes remaining in the third quarter against Minnesota, Harrell engineered the greatest comeback in bowl history, beating the pathetic Golden Gophers, 44-41.

Round 4 Pick 128
Ron Brace / NT / Boston College
Height: 6-3. Weight: 330.
Projected 40 Time: 5.25.
Projected Round: 4.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vx2CnOeEq4&feature=channel_page
Minnesota drafted Ron Brace because Pat Williams is 36 and we'll need somebody to replace him at nose tackle. Not only is Williams getting older every year, but he still has to serve his four game suspension next season.
Quote:
walterfootball said:
5/9/08: Took over for B.J. Raji as Boston College's mammoth nose tackle. Ron Brace started seven games and recorded 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, earning an All-ACC honorable mention.

Round 5 Pick 160
Eric Wood / C / Louisville
Height: 6-4. Weight: 304.
Projected 40 Time: 5.09.
Projected Round (2009): 5.
Quote:
walterfootball said:
5/26/08: You're getting a rock at center if you draft Eric Wood; he's started 37 consecutive games. He was voted to the All-Big East first team last year.

2007: A member of the All-Big East second team in 2006, Eric Wood started all 13 games as a sophomore.

Round 6 Pick 187 (from Baltimore)
Garrett Reynolds / OT / North Carolina
Height: 6-7. Weight: 310.
Projected 40 Time: 5.23.
Projected Round (2009): 5-6.
Quote:
walterfootball said:
5/24/08: Garrett Reynolds was a first-year starter in 2007 (he started half the year in 2006). A right tackle.

Round 7 Pick 204 (from Washington)
Marcus Thigpen / RB / Indiana
Height: 5-9. Weight: 195.
Projected 40 Time: 4.37.
Projected Round (2009): 5-6.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zjw1TKNALbM
Quote:
walterfootball said:
5/21/08: Marcus Thigpen's not listed this high for his skills as a running back (568 yards, three touchdowns). Instead, he's a fifth-round prospect because he's one of the top kick returners in the nation.

Round 7 Pick 224
Kaluka Maiava / LB / USC

Undrafted Free Agents
Jeff Byers / OT / USC
Height: 6-3. Weight: 288.
Projected 40 Time: 4.98.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
Quote:
walterfootball said:
2007: Jeff Byers had enormous potential until he missed the past two seasons with different injuries. He's currently healthy, so let's see what he makes of his final two years as a Trojan.

Cary Harris / CB / USC
Height: 6-0. Weight: 184.
Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
Projected Round (2009): 7.
Quote:

12/13/08: Owner of 33 tackles, six passes broken up and four TFL. An All-Pac 10 honorable mention.

5/17/08: Started 23 of 25 games the past two seasons for USC's stout defense. Despite a pedestrian 40, Cary Harris can return kicks.

I dont get the Ravens Trade. Why would we trade down 28 picks and not get a first rounder for next year? Also I think Shank has proven that we dont need to draft a TE that high anymore. I would keep our pick and get a stud OT as I highly doubt we'll sign Gross. He's going to want top LT money and we already have a ton of money tied up in our O-Line. But if this offseason happened that be sweet and I can tell you put alot of effort into this so good work. Barden is going to be like TO, Macho is the bomb, and I also am really liking the Harrell pickup.

Not very likely we get THAT many free agents... its more like a dream offseason than a realistic one but I would absolutely LOVE if that happened

I don't see Collins leaving Ten. The reason he came out of retirement was because Nashville is not far from his home.

I agree, Collins is not coming here. Also not a fan of the trade, not enough in return.

Gross would be great, but are they really going to spend that much money on the Oline?

Collins wont leave Tennessee especially not to be a backup...Carolina will resign Gross...Nice setup...Too much of a dream offseason as opposed to a real one.

I like the trade, but disagree with the picks somewhat. I don't think TE will be our first pick regaurdless of the round, simply because Visanthe had a good year and Chilly doesn't want him to feel alienated at all. I think our first pick will be on defense, in the form of a DT or CB. if you replace Pettigrew with B.J. Raji, Ron Brace's teammate, I would love this draft. The offseason doesn't seem real realistic, but I would love if it happened.

If that is truly the QB situation, T-Jack should be 3rd on the depth chart.

I really can't see Pettigrew falling to the end of round two, unless his workouts are disastrous. He is a late 1st-early 2nd talent.

Sign either Matt Cassell or Derek Anderson, both would be major upgrades over Jackson. Then either keep Jackson as a backup or trade him away. I'm sorry to some Vikings fans, but I'm praying that this was Jackson's last start in a Vikings uniform. The man has been given too many opportunities.
